Well here's the story, I just got a confirmation on my female cat being pregnant... joy..=(
and i was wondering.. what happens next? How does she give birth do i need to assist her, or do i leave her a lone.. how long until she gives birth? what next.. im freaking out, and im sure she is, i know that i have to keep my male away when she gives birth incase he decides to kill the babies.. another thing is, how many can she potentially have? 4 or 5 or 12 or 13? It kills me just to think that i have to give them away..
i could never sell them, it's too evil. i wouldnt like to be sold, so why do it to them. anyhow. if someone can tell me or guide me through the process i'd love that, and be greatly in debt to who ever decides to answer me. Thanks I'll be back to check.. bye bye

Welcome to the site... and that is a pretty kitty in your sig if that is the proud mommy!

There are lots of helpful people on here, they helped me. Sneakers just had her kittens.

There are informative links under the "pinned" threads in this forum, and as you think of questions, feel free to ask them. I'm sure you'll get lots of answers... but for now, go read those articles and then ask if you have any other questions.

Again, welcome. I hope that helps a little...

Stephy...I would highly recommend you get your male neutered if he isn't already. That way, he won't be carrying active sperm by the time your female gives birth and weans her kittens. We would encourage you to make this her only litter of kittens. Set her up in a room with her litter, quality kitten food and nesting box.

I do NOT advocate giving kittens away..for one thing...how will you know whether that person will do the right thing (taking the kitten to the vet, making sure it is spayed/neutered, buying it good quality food etc). The link below gives good advice on why you should charge a fee:

http://www.cathobbyist.com/articles/...yist/Free.html

You can apply the fee to spaying the mom cat...or you can donate the fee to a local rescue group.

As far as how many she will have...only a vet can give you an accurate count.

Thanks.. I was thinking about not giving my Girls kittens away.. I want them to be loved like she is, i don't want to see them on the street mal nutrishined at any cost. they deserve a good home, good food, and good rest at all times. I appreciate your advice, i value it very much. Im going to see a vet a soon as i can, thank you.. I also read the whole rules about the delivery of kittens i got myself a record book, markers, scale all prepared. tomorrow im buying a big cat box and puting different kinds of comfortable fabrics for her to get use to it.. and so yah soon enough i'll have my house full of kittens yay(im have obsession with cats) My female was cat i took from the street in mid october.. she looked soo skinny, probably born on the street or something, my male brought her home, so yeah., now she has a home.. her intially name was velvet, but my mom said she looked to lick chocolate, so we named her kandy. anyway thanks a lot

I would also recommend that you get your male fixed...especially if he is allowed outdoors. You don't know how many other intact females that he could be impregnating. As far as placing the female kittens....unless you plan to have your male cat neutered and the kittens fixed by 4 months of age...I wouldn't recommend you keep the females as that would just be asking for them to potentially become pregnant. Just make sure they go into homes where they will ensure that the girls will be fixed. In the meantime, please use your funds to have your male fixed.
