I switched to a grain free diet for one of my cats reoccurring digestive problems, now my other cat with medium lenghth hair and thick undercoat is having problems with hairballs. I comb her at least once sometimes twice a day and use laxatone and she still has problems. I have tried feeding them different foods and that doesn't work. The only way to keep them out of each others food is with a closed door and then they are each at the door more interested in what is going on with each other than in eating. I guess the new foods don't have enough fiber for the one with the real thick fur. I haven't heard of using it for hairball control but I wonder if a little pumpkin two or three times a week would work?

I don't know, but I hope someone offers a suggestion soon - it would be a big help in my house too...

Grown ups? Anyone? Over here...

I recently started adding pumkin to my cats diet based on by Vet's recommendation. I have both hairball issues and some soft stool issues and the additional fiber in the pumpkin I guess is good for both. It has to be 100% pumpkin not the pumpkin pie filling which comes in a very similar looking can.

I mix it in with some wet food. It guess it tastes better with some wet foods that with others so I had to experiment with some different ones before I could find one that they all liked. I now mix it in with Iams Lamb & Rice which was a hit.

Ask your vet about it but, if it works it seems like a very inexpensive, natural way to take care of a difficult problem. It has helped the soft stool but I don't know yet about the hairballs, I'll keep you posted!

I add a tablespoon of canned pumpkin to Dori's food every 3 days or so during shedding season, and anytime that I notice she needs the extra fiber.

I feed her Merrick wet, and always mix it with the Thanksgiving Day flavor
It just seems to me it would taste best in that one.

Remy's breeder suggested the pumpkin for the loose stool, He doesnt get hairballs... He loves it. I just put it on a little plate for him and away he goes. It has really helped with the loose stool.

The tablespoon is what I have heard.. What concerns me is that this happend after a diet change a vet visit may be in order to make sure that is what is going on

I give this to my cats... but only a tsp each... smaller doses are better for fiber... larger doses like a TB per cat is good for runny stool. I mix it into fishy wet food and they love it.
