Does anyone have a great book recommendation or a website that has really great information on beginning a cat rescue? This has always been my goal and I would like to start to look into it a little more and see what all I need to do. I am interesting in reading about any sort of cat rescue group but in particular, beginning one from your home on a small scale. I would just start out on a small scale on my own and then eventually would like to have a sanctuary. I would like to learn more about the legal aspects if it, about non profit groups, etc, about how to start and if there is any sort of government grants I could obtain at any point. I know nothing about the legal area of running a rescue. I am young and not going to really get into this right now. I do a little on my own but I am not even in an ideal living situation to start this now. Owning my own home would be a start

Any help would be great and appreciated

I don't have any advice for you really - BF and I are hoping to do something similar when we have our own place (hopefully, in the next year). I plan on investing in a bunch of traps, building an enclosure (have a look at some of the stuff Hissy has done) with an enclosed garden, and working closely with our local shelter.

Of course, I will also need to do more research before I get started, but that's the idea as it's in my head I guess. Good luck to both of us, and all the kitties we can help this way!

In the mean time I'm thinking of talking to the shelter and my vets about starting a TNR program near us, as even if we move it will be near my university, so I would still be close by in another sense, even if I don't live near by. I would put as much of my own money into it as possible - by my own traps, etc. as our shelter is chronically underfunded. Again, that's something that needs more thought before I jump in.

What an angel you are!

Hissy on this site has published and written much on the subject. She is considered one of the finest world-class rescuers on the planet.

I work in rescue up here in Washington, but not in the same way. I'm an Intuit, although I do not publicize it, but word has gotten around over the years and I work to find lost cats/missing cats. I'm always right, whether happy or sad circumstances, and I just fell into it over the years. I do not have anything set up at my house, rather I "out call". There are different types of rescue guess! Lots of hugs to you!!!!
