Pearl, one of my sweet kitty babies.....

Her mother was a Siamese and her father was a Persian.

This is her picture

She has the Siamese face and markings, not the Persian face (which I'm not fond of). And medium/long hair.

Now I know that the breed of himalayan was created mixing Siamese and Persian and I'm just curious would you classify Pearl as a Himalayan or a Siamese/Persian mix? Or is that the same thing.

Forgive me if I am being completely stupid.

I thought that.......and she's just a cute little ball of fur....you know like i said it doesn't matter what breed she is.....cause I think she's just beautiful.....

But I'm curious to know if she would be classified as a himalayan because of her breeding or just a mix between the two breeds (Siamese/Persian)...

On those same lines....how was the breed, Ragdoll, created?

I'm not exactly sure what breeds were originally mated. I'm pretty new to them. I agree with you wholeheartedly: I couldn't care less what my baby's are - they're loved and nutured regardless.

Himalayans may have originated from Persians and Siamese, I am not sure on that...but that wouldn't mean breeding the two breeds together would classify the cat as a Himalayan. Himmies are purebred and they come from breeding a Himalayan to a Himalayan. All breeds originated and probably crossbred to form at some point. But you have a Siamese Persian mix and that's it.

She is absolutely gorgeous though.

I would say that you a Siamese Persian crossbreed (if you know that the parents were registered purebred cats) or a Domestic Longhair if you don't. She remindes me of my Mica who is a long-haired Siamese (Balinese) but she is registred with the GCCF on the non-active list.

The original Himis were craefully selected Siamese and Persians that were bred together a long time ago to create the himi breed. Nowadays modern Himis have no Siamese blood in them (for the pointed gene) as it has been bred out of them.

Your kitty is beautiful and you should enjoy her for what she is, your baby girl!

That is exactly what I was trying to say.

The himalayan was produced with persian and siamese - only to get the colorpoint gene. I'm sure that the old fashioned apple headed siamese were used and not the more elegant refined. You wanted cats with similar build/body - not the opposite.

Since she has more of a siamese look (especially the ears), she is a siamese/persian cross - NOT a himalayan.

Okey dokey, thanks. Like I said I didn't really care either way, but was only curious about the hows and what fors? Know what I mean.

It fascinates me how each 'breed' of cats were created to the different ones we have now.

Both my kitties are beautiful creatures and I wouldn't trade them for anything.

The Ragdoll origin will always stay somewhat a mystery, and is surrounded by myths. However, it first came about with a white feral cat, named Josephine. She was said to be very wild until hit by a car while pregnant, and after nursed back to health, her temperament changed and she became friendly and tame.
Ann Baker lived next to the woman who cared for Josephine, and was amazed at the kittens traits. Ann Baker then decided to bring in what is considered a Birman TYPE, cat. It is known for several reasons it WAS NOT actually a Birman. It has been proven that the mitted gene in Ragdolls was not brought in by the Birman. It is also said that a Burmese type cat was brought in as well. The breed began in the 60's in Riverside, CA, and was recognized in the 70's.
It is said that she used many different stray cats in her breeding program. I can say she sounded very crazy and would have been the worst BYB, but luckily others took the Ragdoll into the fancy and we have this beautiful breed.

Oh they are beautiful breeds. My husband loves them. Well he has two breeds of cats he'd love to have....not to say he doesn't love our babies but...

He has always been (okay since I helped him love cats) fond of Ragdolls and Bengals.

And he'd like either if we were to pick up a purebred kitty.
