The first day there Trout was completely beside herself with fear. While we were moving stuff out of the old apartment I tried picking her up to move her into a safer room, and she near clawed my arm off. Man, it is crazy how her personality changes when she's scared.

In the new place, she hid in the storage room for about 4 hours until Ken took her out. Then she slunk around the place with her body about 1 centimeter from the floor almost as if she was crawling. I have never seen her so scared, poor thing. There is a big friendly yellow lab of course always trying to make freinds with her at the window too...Trout doesn't like that dog much, she hisses at her.

The apartment is a couple feet below grade, so it isn't a basement but just under the ground a bit. I am terrifed that I will find bugs in there someday soon. I saw this little red bug on my bed last night...EW! I was like "if thats a flea, I am going to go nuts"! The lady before me had a dog in there, so I am worried about fleas a little. I noticed Trout was a little scratchy a few times since we moved there, but I don't know if its her regular scratching, or fleas. I really hope it isn't fleas..I HATE fleas.

The place has a giant kitchen with NO cupboard space and a tiny livingroom..so I need some ideas for cupboard space...and things to fill up my kitchen. As for the livingroom, once Ken finds a place his 48inch tv will be gone, so that will free up space in there.

Hmm, also for anyone who has alot of tile in their home...what is the best way to keep it clean? There are alot of gimmick mops and sweepers out there, but which are the best? I have tons of tile and only a little carepetting in my tiny livingroom and bedroom.

Anyway, sorry this is so long guys, but any ideas for the items mentioned above would be great

Oh yeah, one more thing..I am worried since my windows and doors are at ground level, that when I live alone I will get ambushed...Eeeeek, I am seriously freaking about it. I will have to check out Zissous moms thread about that in her new place.

Congrats on finishing the move.

You may want to try Feliway with Trout. It could calm her nerves a little.

The only thing I can help with is the tile. I use wet and dry Swiffers on mine all the time

I just use the regular Swiffer sweeper, both the dry and the wet.

Hey Natalie!!

I just got back from camping and searched to find a thread saying how the move went!!

Poor Trout!....she'll adjust to her new home soon enough though.

I'm not too sure about keeping tile clean but I find that with my laminate floors I use a regular mop to clean them once a week and then once a month I get down on my hands and knees and give it a really good scrubbing.

and for your windows you could get a thick piece of wood cut to size and use it so that the window is not able to slide open (if it's a sliding window)

Enjoy your new place!!

I feel for you and for Trout - I am dreading how my five will settle in to their new home in two weeks or so. I am going to have to keep them in one room for a while, as the builders are still everywhere. But maybe that is actually a good thing. I hope you get settled properly soon, I am sure it will be fine.

I'll have to get one of those, they are pretty cheap I think. Thanks for the tip!

I think Trout will be fine, she is eating and pooping normally
And the morning after we got there she was on the bed playing fetch already

I hope the move in is going smoothly. Give trout hugs and kisses for me when she calms down (try some catnip to put her in a happy state maybe). Target has some really cute ideas for storage solutions. (www.target.com). I live in Memphis, so i'm not really sure what else is in Ontario...but there are a lot of great online stores that offer storage solutions at reasonably low prices. I suggest (www.homdepot.com and www.lowes.com) -both are home improvement centers, that have tons of ideas for storage. I would measure your kitchen and anywhere else you may need storage before ordering anything though to be sure it will fit. Also, if you're not handy with tools, or you just need a little extra help, some places if they're local, will install things for you for a reasonably low price....and places like The Home Depot (if there's one near you) have "Do-It-Yourself" Workshops several times a month- they're usually free, and they have excellent advice. Good luck. I wish i could be more helpfull, but that's about all of my suggestions at the moment. Keep us posted on how things are going

I swear by my swiffer! You can use wet or dry pads with it. It's awesome. I also have the Dirt Devil Power Sweeper. It's a small cordless vacuum for hard floors. It's a great little thing to have around!
I have no carpet in my house and it's 1100SQ feet... I am ALWAYS sweeping and mopping... not just cuz I have to (with 2 cats and a dog you HAVE TO
) but because these things make it SO easy to do.

The Swiffer Wet Jet actually sucks if ya ask me
You have to buy the refils for it and if you have alot of floors you run out of it VERY quickly

Eh gads don't even remind me about the ills of moving.....NOT fun. My sympathy to you and the hope that it progresses smoothly with little consequence.
