I was downstairs in the "back room" playing with JC just a few minutes ago. The back room is pretty much a storage room for our saws and stuff (Father is a carpenter) and the laundry room. Half of the floor is concrete (the laundry part), and half of it is carpeted. I was sitting on the carpet when I seen a white thing on the ground. It was about 1cm long and I thought it was one of JC's nail sheaths. I went to go pick it up but I looked closer--it was some maggoty/larvae looking thing! I swear, it was the most disgusting thing ever. I've never found any creepy crawlies in my house other than the occasional ant/spider. I got my brother to come and kill it and I vowed never to step foot in that room again.

Ewww, I HATE that scene. I hope that..that THING on the floor wasn't a maggot.

Just an FYI you might want to consider, check your furbabies litterbox when they poop. There could be some worms lurking. Also check thier rears.

This is a dumb question--but what kind of worms?

Intestinal worms. They are a parasite that live inside animals... I can't think of the "medical" name for them but it's common for cats to get them if they aren't treated for them or they go outside alot. They can get them from other animals or from eating dead things... I'm sure someone else could elaborate more..

Last Monday we went to the vet and they gave us de-worming stuff we've been using on the girls. They're both inside cats, too.

It could very well be the worms coming out. Change the litter box every day and bleach it out and rinse it well.. Same thing happened to Reilly when we took her in. She had worms and withen a few days they were coming out... most of them dead. (I hate to go into details but it's a fact of being a cat owner) Sometimes she would scoot her rear on the floor if one was Hanging out and it would end up on the carpet... I know, it's gross but it happens. Keep an eye out on them both and see who could have them and treat it accordingly. They can pass the worms back and forth very easily. Say you rid them of one cat but the other one had them worse and it's taking longer, the other cat could very easily give them back to the other one. It's a cycle you have to watch carefully... don't mean to alarm you, I just know what I went through with Reilly and Tiger...

Tapeworms...the segments come out all wiggly out of their anal region.

But as for a maggot story, we had taken in a stray and very feral cat (who we ended up having to let back outside for a number of reasons.) One being he was attacking my daughter viciously.....beyond help.

Well after he took off (and we never saw him again). He wouldn't let anyone touch him either......anyways.

We would notice pieces of meat missing....never thought anything of it figuring he took it and he had eaten it.

Ha.

I had a bag of old maternity clothes and we were going through things preparing for a move and inside the bag was a rancid piece of meat covered in slimey squirmy maggots.....and also solved the mystery smell we had been smelling for a week.

I can't remember if we let him outside or if he ran out the door and never came back...several of the strays we'd take in when we lived on base would do that.....it is sad.
