Hey all, If you remember, I've been having problems with my Simers, he had an abcessed tooth and he went in for surgery on Tuesday to get it pulled, but they ended up not having to pull it, but they gave him a good cleaning while the had him under and then he came home with anti-biotics. He was fine for two days, eating ,etc, but then Friday morning he refused to eat. He has been eating very little over the weekend, nothing seems to tempt him, and I can tell he's getting weaker. The vet said to stop the anti-biotics and I did, but he just won't eat! I'm going to stop and get some chicken breast to boil and see if he'll eat that, but I'm feeling very desperate right now, I don't know what to do.... I'm going to call the vet again tomorrow and I'll probably be taking him back in, but if you can, can you please send me "eat Simon!" vibes and prayers that it's not his time, I don't know what I'd do with out my boy

Maybe that tooth is hurting again. Can you give him some "soup"...either people chicken noodle soup, or baby chicken meat watered down so he can drink it.

Poor Simon...I hope you are feeling better soon!

Come on Simon, you can do it. Mommy is working hard to find something that you'd like. You're getting hungry and want to eat, right?

I gave him some of the chicken last night and he ate 2 bites, which is better than nothing I suppose, I totally forgot about baby food! he did sleep with me last night, but he was right back in the bathroom cupboard this morning. I have a vet appt right after work, I couldn't get time off today because of the holiday, but I left the chicken in the bathroom with him, so hopefully he'll have eaten some more when I get home
all the other kitties are very worried about Sime too, they keep coming in to check on him even my pup Vino has been hovering like a mother hen
I keep telling them to tell Simon to eat! Please please please let the vet be able to do something!

Oh Katie, I'm so sorry to hear about Simon! We're sending healing purrs and prayers your way!

Do you think you could try syringe feeding him? He likely won't enjoy it but it's a good way to get some calories and nutrients in him. What about Nutri-Cal or Nutri-Stat? Will he lick that off his paws?

Also, is he drinking? You can try some low sodium chicken or beef broth to entice him to drink if you think he's getting dehydrated. Some people will even use Pedialyte.

We're thinking about you!

Rachel

Well, unfortunately this story does not have a happy ending, I had to make the very difficult decision to put Simon down tonight... He had severe anemia, his red blood count was only 6 when the regular is around 28, the vet said that he had never seen a cat still alive that had a red count that low. My Simon was a little fighter, right up till the end. The vet said he most likely had the disease where his marrow loses the ability to produce red blood cells, and while it is curable, I just don't have that kind of money
But now Simon is playing over the bridge with all his other leukemia buddies, he'll be reunited with Rocket, his best friend, at last. Thanks again to everyone for their thoughts and prayers and vibes.
