I'm not psychic,I just see through people
At this moment my little boy Raffles is terrified,We are having a bad thunder storm and he is literally running up the walls with fright trying to find a way out.

He used to be a feral before we trapped him and brought him and his brother home and they have both settled in really well and is a very loving boy
but to see him like this again is very distressing.the last time i saw him like this he was living in the wild and it was guy fawkes celebrations.him and his brother Swift was part of my feral colony and I went to check on them and when i saw him and his brother they were running around the car park and across the street,in front of cars,I don't think i have ever felt so helpless in my life as i did when i saw them that night.
I hate to see him like this again,I don't know what i can do for him.
I would really appreciate any advice if anybody has got ant tips please

Celtic music will soothe him. Put him in a darkened room with a cardboard box or someplace similiar to hide out in. Dim the lights and put food water and litter pans in there and just let him be. If you can find harp music, I have found this to be the best to soothe a terrified feral cat. Keep the music playing constantly really low.

I second putting him in a room with a cardboard box (or something similar) for him to hide under/in. Even if you put a carrier in there for him to crawl in, put a towel over the top to keep out the light.

Thanks Hissy and Stephanie
The thunder cracks and lightning finished about an hour ago.
I have managed to get him confined to one room by closing the doors,I couldn't get him in the bedroom where he probably would have been better off,he is currently seeking refuge under one of the kitchen units,
He does have 'safe' places to go already (boxes and a carrier)but he was panicking that much,he was hanging off the windows at one point and panting that much i was scared he was going to have a heart attack.he wouldn't let me anywhere near him.
He is quiete now under the unit, i didn't have any celtic music, the only thing i have is 'forrest sounds' of birds in the forrest and leaves blowing in the wind, and 'skybirds' music so i have been playing that for him the past couple of hours.
and left him alone.

One of my cats was terrified of thunderstorms. He must have been caught in one bad one as a kitten. He'd open closet doors and hide till it was over.

I would confine him to a small room or closet where he might feel "safer" till the storm is over.

Poor kitty

I am sorry your cat was terried too,Did he eventually overcome his fear?

This is the first thunder storm we've had since i brought Raffles home, this is something that i hadn't even thought about till it happened(though i had thought about what would happen next guy fawkes ),but knowing what he's been through in the past,I should have expected it.

Its now 5 o clock and he still hasn't come out from under the unit.he has food and water and non of it has been touched,I can see him under there and he seems ok.
but i can't go to bed till i know for sure he's ok and i hate to leave him there like that while i sleep, its such a small place he's hiding.

You could give him a little Rescue Remedy, it works wonders at relieving anxiety in animals - you can buy it at most health stores.

Oh poor Raffles!
Willow was scared of the thunder storm too - he hid under the settee for the duration and only came out once he knew it had finished!

You've been given some excellent tips, hopefully the weather will stay good now so you won't need to use them for some time!

I don't have any tips, but I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone. One of my cats hates storms too. Actually he hates rain and/or thunder. Everytime it rains or thunders he hunkers down to the ground and slinks to the bathroom and then hides in the tub. He will stay there until the storm is over and he calms down. Typically I just pet him a little and let him be. I'm sure your cat will figure out a safe place for him to hide and thats where you will find him from then on.

Thanks for all the advice everybody.

I will get some rescue remedy in for next time Murfins
Thanks
,'cos i'm sure there probably will be a next time.

I left Raffles to come out in his own time and this he did at about 8.30 yesterday morning

The first thing he did was come to his mum for a love
he came to bed with me and stayed with me for about ....well i'd like to say it was longer but he only stayed with me for ten minutes then he was off for his dinner

and yeah Sarah I hope we don't have anymore for a while
I think i will pay more attention to the weather forecast in the future
That way i'll be prepared.

I'm pleased he came out on his own accord!
Ten minutes of loving is a good time, especially for a peckish kitty!

At least we didn't get any last night!
I think any more of this rain would destroy even more of our roads, let alone creating scaredy kitties!

Good idea about checking the forecast - so long as you can find an accurate one!
