I was hoping to get a little help from the cat folks here. I just finished a new site where people can list their lost or found pets for free. My question is this, do people recognize different breeds of cats? I have found a listing of 39 different cat breeds. I am not sure if it would be helpful to search for just "cats" or cats and then by breed.

Thanks!

If you can set up your site so people can search by breed, but also by location that would be most helpful.

Yes you can search by location. In fact, the whole site revolves around location as its built around using maps. You can search by zip, by state, by type of pet. Its built off of google maps.
Therefore, one can pinpoint exactly where a cat was lost. The question is, if you wanted see all the cats lost in a city or state on a map, would having the breed listed help them?

Breed isn't very helpful because most pets are domestic short haired or domestic long haired. I would recommend being able to search by characteristics like tabby, calico, tortoiseshell, long-haired, short-haired, color.

Thanks for your reply. So if I used your list, would I cover most cats?

You would cover most cats, but in order to cover all, you'd also have to add pointed (like Siamese etc) and cover the four different types of tabby as well.
