My kitten Jonah who is only 10 days old has a strange thing wrong with him....When I brought him I didn't think much about it at first, I was more concerned about bringing him back to health. Now, I am racking my brain. Half his tail is missing, and he has a scab on the end of it. What could have caused this? Tweek, the mother cat (who I know needs to be spayed, and will be) wouldn't have bit it off would she? Has anyone else experienced this?

It may be that he was born with his tail that way.

Mamma may very well have accidentally nipped his tail off. I have twice encountered nervous young rescue mammas who have accidentally 'overgroomed' or roughly handles their kits and hurt them. One young female with a litter of 11 (!) accidentally nipped off one of the newborns paws.

It is very possible that Mama may have accidentally bitten off part of the kitten's tail. Sometimes this happens when they are trying to bite off the umbilical cord. Take him to the vet to see if the vet would recommend putting him on antibiotics to help prevent infection. Otherwise, there is no need to worry about anything. You can expect him to grow up a healthy, happy cat who happens to have a shorter-than-average tail.
