I thought I would make it through today without falling apart, but it's 11 p.m. and I cannot stop crying.

One year ago today we lost our precious girl, Sunni. She shared a mere five years of love and wonderful memories with us..

I believe her death was due to an illness caused by the application of an OTC flea treatment. She got very ill, very quickly. She passed away a few hours after coming home from the emergency clinic. She was just too far gone for treatment to help.

Please, please. Never use any type of OTC medication on your pets. Ever. I would never want anyone to go through the pain, loss, and guilt I felt after I realized it was something I had given her.

I love you, Sunni. I always will. You will never be forgotten, because I will always carry you with me in my heart.

I am so very sorry to hear this, it must have been an awful experience. By informing others, you can make sure her death wasn't in vain. Big hugs to you.

I'm so very sorry about Sunni. I also had an anniversary last week, and was stunned by how hard it hit me. I sometimes think it's harder when the end comes so suddenly for our babies, when we have no time to prepare ourselves. Sunni must have been a very special girl.

Hi Sunnicat,

I was tempted to buy next week OTC stuff for fleas, because it is cheaper than Revolution or Advantage. But after what happened to you, I have doubts now. You may have saved my cat's life, who know!

I am sorry for the pain you are experiencing and understand very well.

Hugs,

Nath.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Know that Sunni is in a peaceful place. I'm sure she would say it is past time to forgive yourself for an accident. We can all learn from this tragedy!

Listen to your heart about this Nath, and don't buy OTC flea meds. It has been the cause of death for MANY dogs and cats. You may be lucky, but you just don't want to take that chance.

This is so true, and especially touching given how hurting you must be.

RIP Sunni.

I know how much it hurts to lose a pet suddenly. I took my Tigger into the vet on July 2nd thinking he'd be all better and found out that he had kidney failure from a lilly he ate 2.5 days earlier and was outside of the 6 hour window where recovery was a possibliity. I had to put him down. The sudden unexpected loss hits like a freight train and you can't help but feel guilt. Know that it wasn't your fault and take comfort that even in your sorrow you were able to post a warning to others prevent this from happening again.
