How Soon Can I move Them?

My darling cat Claire just had her first litter. She had three kittens yet we're getting ready to move to a new house. How long before I can transport them to the new place? any advice on how to make it easy on her and the babies?

Dawn...welcome...I can't really provide advice on the timing of moving your mom cat and kittens. But I would recommend that you set her up with a quiet room in your new home with her food, litter and nesting box. Given that everything in the new home will be "new" to her...it is probably best to keep her confined in that room until the kittens are a bit older and mom isn't stressed by her environment (thus increasing the chance of her "moving" the kittens). I don't know the history of your cat..but I would highly recommend that you keep her indoors only and away from intact males until her kittens are weaned and she can be safely spayed.

As long as mom/kits are in the same large carrier with a soft towel, you should be fine. Cover the carrier so mom will not get too upset.

In the new house, put all of them in a small quiet room - like spare bedroom or bathroom and keep them in there for a few weeks together. That way mom won't be moving the kittens. Put litter pan and food/water in the room.

How old will the kits be when you move? They can start exploring the house at 6-8 weeks old - just keep an eye on everyone and keep them confined if you are not around to supervise.
