My family lives in a 5-plex.. my grandma in the front apartment, my sister in law on the second floor above my grandma, we have two apartments, one over the other.. and then my aunt and uncle in the basement. So anyway.
A few days ago my grandma saw a black ford pick up pull into our driveway, and throw out a small tabby cat, who took off down the driveway and under the fence into the ravine in our yard.
So yesterday it was pouring rain, and we saw her trying to find shelter.. we went out, and she took off.

This morning I came in on my bike from the cat rescue, and there she was, with Marmalade, a cat owned by some people down the street. First I prayed that she wasn't in heat, because Marmie isn't neutered. I got some cat food and went outside and sat in the grass, shaking the bowl.. Marmalade came up and was rolling around beside me.. then she came up to within 3 feet of me.. until finally she came right up to me. I pat her head and scritched under her chin, and carefully and slowly went to grab the scruff of her neck, when Marmie went nuts and attacked her, she flipped out and ran away. Not before I was caught in the middle of it.
Thank god it was only claws, no teeth.

So I have seen her and tried to catch her three times since this morning, to no avail... I really don't want to use a humane trap if I don't have to, because I don't want to end up catching neighborhood cats or coons or the neighborhood skunk.

But I don't want her to end up pregnant either.

How can people just dump the poor creatures like they are a peice of garbage?

You are going to have to let her be for awhile, because she now doesn't trust you. Even though you were doing good, it went bad and she will remember. Put food out on a scheduled basis so she will get used to you at those times. In a few days after you put the food out, stay outside, well away from the food bowls on the ground, just sitting there (read a book or write a letter of something) then go inside. Do that for a few days until she gets used to seeing you then slowly by degrees and over a few more days move in closer to the bowls. Eventually she will drop her guard-

But honestly it would go so much faster if you just trapped her

I am most likely going to go pick one up from the rescue tonight, if I can find someone with a car to get it, because it's too heavy to carry.. but I'd prefer not too if I don't have to.. but I will most likely need it.

she still gets close to me.. she just won't let me touch her now.. if those people would just keep their cat indoors and get him neutered, I may have already had her inside the house. :\\

Thanks MA

Trapping her is going to be your best bet, I think too. The risks for her in a strange neighborhood are pretty high, especially with an intact male around and you know the chances of someone who would dump a cat like that having her spayed are pretty slim...

If you don't have to work tommorow you could always stay up watching out the window for her to go in the trap or check on it every half hour or so, if you have an isolated place with no carpet (easier to clean up / no flea habitat) you can put her out of the cage.

I am going to be at the park all day for another fundraiser.. and then taking my dog to the park since it's his birthday tomorrow.(The big number 5!)

But my mum will be home all day to watch it.. but she won't want to carry it inside and attempt to put Revolution on her and confine her to the bathroom for 24 hours will the revolution does it's magic.. So she would end up in the trap, or in the bathroom in the trap.

So I don't know.

Better safe in a trap for a few hours than at risk in a strange neighbourhood I would think.

Anyway, good luck and happy birthday doggie!

Finally was able to get the trap yesterday.. put a can of wet food in it, and set it up by the fence in the shade..

About 3 hours later, I was out getting cat food, when it snapped. My mum went out, and sure enough, she was in it. So my mum didn't want to pick it up because I guess the kitty was sticking her paws out through at the handle.. so she left it.. but somehow she managed to get out.
I took the can out and unset it last night, because I don't want to catch a racoon, but I set it up again this morning.

I already caught the neighbors cat twice.. I wish he would stay away.

But I hope that she will go back into the trap.. hopefully.

Oh dear. I will keep my fingers crossed for both of you.
