My kitten Cosmo is 2 months old and right now he's using Yesterday's News pellets for his litter box but I'm wondering at what age is it safe to switch him over to clumping litter?

I did not know you had to wait. I will say I tried to switch the other way and they hated it. So you are smart to start with the pellets.

Well I read all these articles on Kitten care when I first got him since we got Zoe when she was 8 months and I've never had a kitten before. They said that clumping litter is not good for kittens so that's why i started using the pellets but I prefer to use the clumping so that's why I was wondering when I could switch back. Zoe still uses the clumping but they each have thier own litterbox and he never goes in hers so it'll be nice to just buy one for both rather than drive all the way to Milford to pick up the pellets. Darn us not having a closer pet store lol.

I've seen anything from 3 months to 6 months.

If you use clumping litter on such young kittens, first off they usually will give litter a taste and you don't want them tasting clumping litter!~ Also, sometimes they will sit in it and if you don't see that right away and it clumps and hardens on their butts, it can block them and become infected. I mean, this COULD happen, doesn't mean it will. Better safe then sorry.

Thank you TNR1. He doesn't really play in there. Just uses the bathroom and gets back to chasing Zoe so maybe in a month I'll switch him over to clumping. I'll just keep an eye on his bathroom habits.
