Dear all,

Being a member of this site and reading all the wonderful things that everyone has done for our beautiful furry friends, I am considering becoming a foster mummy myself, and helping poor homeless creatures where ever I can. I found this institute where I live (China) that do animal rescue, but with this company, only some animals are taken in and have to be approved by the director. They tell you if you find a stray pet that needs help, that they will not take them, you are solely responsible for everything, food, vet bills etc... You can bring the pet along to adoption days, but this incur a lot of fees aswell. Now my thought is what is the use of this institute, most people can not afford to sponsor so many animals, I thought the reason for an animal rescue is to help as many animals as possible....

I have seen so many animals that are in bad shape and desperate need of vet care and a loving home, but how can I help? I can not afford this as vet bills over here are twice as expensive... and I already have 6 cats....

Do any of you have experience in this field that can give me some advice. I know this company is new, and they do not have a lot of funds, so what can be done to help them? I would love to be a foster mummy, but I can not do it on their terms..... and finding good homes for pets on my own is another big issue + my boyfriend wont let me take in any more animals unless I can assure him that they will find homes....

Do any of you have advice????

As I understand, this institute isnt helping fosterhomes with veterinary bills??

And your own money arent unlimited.

This means. You cant help the cats in most need. You cant take in those you understand need a lot of veterinary help. Deep sorrowful, but you cant.

These you CAN help are those homeless, and shy semiferals, but more or less healthy. Deworming, vaccining, perhaps castration. All.

Your BIG plus is your 6 cats. Friendly homecats are gold worth (much rice if you prefer rice) to fostering shy semiferals. It is MUCH easier!

My advice is you try to take in healthy shy semiferals and or kittens from semiferals mommacats. And foster them with help of your homecats (the most friendly and gentle of them).

In this way, it wouldnt be so hard to find home to them and you will be sure they will be wonderful homecats, perhaps a little shy but very nice to their human family.

And yes, finding homes is also part of your task, as this institute dont seems to do it.

Good luck!

It's very difficult with limited funds..and it sounds like there are lots of animals and only few get placed. If you have a soft spot in your heart for cats...perhaps you can start a TNR group (trap, neuter, return) in your city. The more cats are fixed, the fewer kittens are born and the better these cats lives become. You may want to look at other countries' programs:

Here is information on TNR:

Even if you can only fix 1 cat a year..that is 1 less cat having kittens. Just something to consider.
