Veruca's kittens are a little over 3 weeks old. I know they will be ready to litter box train soon. They are in a bedroom with Veruca. I bought Good Mews for the kittens' litten pans (I bought 4 small baking sheets for them.) My question is should I change Veruca's litter to Good Mews too? The kittens will have access to it so I'm assuming it has to be kitten safe too. But the sides of her box are normal height, so perhaps they will be past the "eating litter" stage by the time they can jump in it. What do you all think?

I would get them all on the same non-clumping litter. So yes, switch the mother too and I would put the boxes out right away. I think at 3 weeks they are starting to go on their own. My 3 week old little guy was completely litterbox trained when I got him a week ago. I was suprised. I was thinking I would have to stimulate him to go and everything but I put the box down and he knew just what to do. And he came from about 20 generations of feral barn cat.

How exciting that I can start them now! Should I try some wet, watered down food too? Poor Veruca would probably love to have the 7 of them cut down on nursing so much. I want them to continue getting natural mom's milk too. Will it interfere with their desire to nurse if I start them on kitten food? Some of the bigger kittens have been sucking at the carpet and the walls, does that mean they need more to eat?

You could give it a try. You definately still want them nursing though but as long as it is a high quality kitten food, I don't see why it would hurt. The mother cat would be happy too I bet.
