The cats house, we just pay the mortgage..
Mackenzie's kitten name thread got me thinking because I know they thought Harley was a girl when he first came home.
We were also told Sleeves was a girl and went crazy on the pink stuff at Pets at Home only to discover 3 days after we got 'her' on a little vet visit she was infact a HE.
Its so hard to change from saying she to he!!
How many of you were told the wrong thing when you got your kitty and didn't know any better? By the way I could tell a boy apart from a girl now after seeing both parts lol.

I just remembered, the lady who gave Sleeves to us had several adult cats including Sleeves's Mum Olive. She had another one who was about a year old and she thought was male until 'he' gave birth the same day as Olive...
What planet are some people on???

I'm pretty good on sexing cats and kittens!
I knew pretty fast (without bum looking) that Tibby was a boy, Molly was a girl and that Willow was a little boy!

I had no chance to get my first cat wrong, as she came with her spay bald patch!

It's funny though, my Auntie's neighbour had a big black boy cat called Lucy!

We thought little Pushkin was a girl when we first found him. No one could tell for sure until we took him to the vet. Poor Pushy!

Aaaaw poor Pushkin!
If I didn't know Nismo I'd sometimes think she was a boy, her character is so insane that I think she was meant to be a boy
She also has a very stocky figure, even though she is like a miniature (she's so tiny next to her big bro) and she has a really thick neck, but her face is very feminine.
However when she was 8 weeks old and came home with us her 'bits' were different to Sleeves's when he was that age so it must be fairly easy to tell.

My exfiance and I adopted a cat who I thought was a girl. We named her Buttercup and then took her in to get her spayed. The vet said to us that she was a he and he had already been neutered!!

Zissou was a boy for the first hour I had her. A friend found her outside his house and brought her in, but couldn't keep her because of his roommate's dog, so somebody called us and told us who knew I wanted a cat. He said, sort of drunkenly, that the cat was a boy with black and white spots.... Well, the first second I laid eyes on her I was in love with her and I picked her up and said "Black and white spots, huh?" to the guy who had called. She is a silver tabby! And then when we got home she was walking around and I said, that is a girl cat! Look at her rear! So Zissou went from being a black-and-white-spotted boy to a silver tabby girl.

LOL!

Nope Luna was a girl the whole time and Whitey was a boy.

I think though technically once they get their bits removed they can be termed as "it" and pink or blue wouldn't matter anyways!

in a pile of open toed shoes!
we knew Luck was a girl...

But my sisters cat, well they got it from a farm, and there were no testes, so they named her Maggie. Then 1 day my 4 yr old neice comes running up the steps "mommy somethings stuck on Maggie, she has butt balls" my sister was like "uhuh, sure sweetie, that's great" but Catie wouldn't let up "no mommy she has butt balls stuck on her butt! come look" so finally my sister went and in her amazement (the kitten was about 8 mos old at this time) there were testicles! So she says out loud "OMG it's a boy!" Well, then she took the cat in to get neutered (apparently they can drop really late), and of course the "butt balls" are gone. So my neice will tell everyone she meets "first my cat Maggie was a girl, then she growed these butt balls, and Mommy said it's a boy!, then we took her to the cat dr and they cut off her butt balls and now she's a girl again! and my cousin Noah, he's a boy, and he has butt balls too!"
And she tells anyone who will listen, the lady behind you in the grocery store, the pastors wife at church, her preschool teacher.... my poor sister!
But it's SO cute to hear her tell it so matter of factly!

I once bought a silver tabby female kitten. This kitten already had the name of "Cleopatra." I liked the name and kept it calling the kitten Cleo. I found out that Cleopatra was a male when I picked him up at the vets after being neutered.

I remember telling my neighbor lady: "Now I've got a boy cat with a girl's name." My neighbor said that she once knew a man who's name was Cleophus but everyone called him Cleo. I also found out that Cleophus was
a man's name from the Bible.

So my kitten kept the name of Cleo but it was short for Cleophus and not Cleopatra.

Zakk was our first kitty. I got him from a co-worker who had evicted some tenants that left the cat. She didn't know much about him at all, other than the fact he was a half grown kitten. She said he was a girl and that her dtr had sexed him. We didn't really care, we just took him home. I thought to confirm this and swore I felt something! I was going crazy looking on the internet and feeling under there.
He had an appt at the vet and I sent my husband with a list of questions. Question number one was what is kitty?
The other ones were fine. Rocky was sexed at the shelter and I could tell, and the kittens I managed myself. Suzie has three colors so I knew what she was and Cookie was pretty obvious. They were a bit older though, 12 weeks or so.

Never. Even though I never owned cats until last year I always new male animals of any species are supposed to have balls.

Oh, yes, let's see.......

Georgia was George, Pepper was Pepe', Fluffy was thought to be a boy, and several others over the years. The only ones I ever got right were the red tabby boys.

We thought our first cat, Yoshi, was a female for a little while until he got fixed (maybe a little sooner than that, but I think the vet had to tell us the truth, lol)
