dear all....we got niko last fri & she's a coming to 5mths old ragdoll...

when we picked her from the cattery...we knew that she's an extremely shy & somehow traumatised kitten...

she was traumatised during 1 of the visits to the vet b4....we were also told that we will need a lot of time & love to nurture her into a more sociable kitty....

me & my hubby just fell in love with her & are all set to take up the challenge...

she's been with us comin to a week but she still hisses when we go to her...she just hisses but did not flatten her ears & will try to evade us but did not attack ....when we try to carry her she will stop hissing & meows....

she will play with us & will sit in front of our bedroom door when we are out...but when we come home...she will run & hide...

this is the 1st time that we've had a kitty & will need lots of help & advises from u experts....thks....

I cannot imagine what could have traumatized her so badly at the vet that she reacts so badly to you. I would almost question the breeder more about it. Seems a little odd. Especially with a normal ragdoll personality...doesn't seem right.

All I can say is to just talk to her and read to her, sing to her whatever. But do not look at or attempt to approach her. Be patient and wait for her to come to you. Also pick up some Feliway plug ins, they work for these sorts of things. You can get them at most large pet stores.

we asked the breeder...he said it may be due to some rough handling & that she's maybe a more sensitive kitty...

but i believe she will feel our love sooner or later...for now...i talk & call her name everytime i'm near her...

thks for the advise jen...

IMO the breeder should disclose exactly what is going on- they presumably had the kitten since birth and were responsible for its handling.

Any reason you chose this particular kitty knowing that she had a problem?
I know you are probably already attached to her, but a more sociable kitty might be a better match for you.

it was love at 1st sight for both my hubby & me....

she was the prettiest & the only gal....& we want to fix her problem...

anyway...she has made great improvements already....earlier on....i was playing with her with her favourite blue feathers 'da bird' & i stopped a while pretending to watch tv & she tap her paw on it & ask me to continue...after that she sniffed my foot when she walked pass me...

i was very happy cos she's walking around us normally when we just do our own stuff & not looking at her...

Let her adjust at her own pace. Don't force her to play or anything. She will come and play wiht you and cuddle with you when she is ready. Some cats just have a shy personality. I hope she comes around for you soon!
