I'm not sure this is the correct forum, but I have to share my expirience. Most people think I am mean/nuts for making my cat stay inside even though he wants nothing more than to go outside. It's horrible, I know. But I'm so paranoid he won't come home, someone will take him, or much worse.

Stop reading here if you don't want to hear about a dead/tortured animal.

So, at my former High School they have a small nature trail that leads to a creek. I took the dogs down to go for a swim and afterwards we headed back toward the school. I had noticed newspaper that looked partially shredded [shredded like when you make a fire.] I know that kids come down there to smoke pot and do various other drugs and god knows what, so it wouldn't surprise me if someone had a camp fire down there somewhere. Anyway, coming back up the trail I noticed something on the ground, I thought it might be a mole or something, I flipped it over with my shoe, and it was the skull of a cat. The image is completely burned into my mind. I'm really not even a cat person, but this makes me completely sick. Half of the fur and whiskers was on it's face [the cat was black and white] it's jaw was closed and it had all of its teeth the way the nose looked, and how clean the skull was leads me to believe the cat was burned. I didn't look around for the rest of the body or anything, I was really creeped out about it [and it smelt horrible]. Seeing the paper, and late finding bits of paper along the trail, someone killed this cat. The little nature trail isn't home to any coyotes or dogs or anything that would kill a cat. We're right in the middle of a city, right in a neighborhood, right behind a school. Someone totally killed this cat. It makes me sick trying to think up how it died, and to think of the cat's owner. It was SO disgusting
and so sad.

I really don't know what to make of this considering that some guy has been stalking our neighborhood and 4 cats have disappeared, and one dog has been poisoned. One of the missing cats is a black and white cat.

I seriously cannot grasp how someone could do that to an animal
. This is WHY Napolean lives inside. One time on a forum some sicko posted a play by play of pictures of them burning a cat alive
. It just makes me sick to think about that happening. Everyone thinks their cat is safe roaming, and they aren't, everyone says "It won't happen to my cat" well this cat probably belonged to someone just the same. I know Napolean would love to be outside, and I do take him out [and am designing an outdoor enclosure] but I'm too afraid of what someone would do to him.

I know we all have different oppinions on cats being indoors and outdoors, but this is a really good reason for me to keep my cat inside.

You are right Plebayo. Once I thought it was okay to let my angel (now in heaven), go outside the front of the house since she never went any further. Well one day Angel was outside and several kids picked her up to take her with them (maybe they just wanted to keep her) and my neighbor saw them and told them she belonged to me, so they put her back down. That scared me so much I never , ever let my kittys outside again. They get plenty of fresh air from the screens in the windows and I know they're safe .

That's really ironic, my friend had the SAME thing happen. Although we saw the girls pick the cat up, however when they got to the end of the street the cat scratched them really bad and jumped out of the girl's arms.

People are just insane. I don't understand how someone could possibley hurt any animal and get JOY out of it.

All of my cats stay inside, all the time. They don't even go out on a leash. Too scary.

RIP all the little kitties who were victims to horrible deaths....

Roper was a stray that I picked up monday at the Gas Station. I was worried what would happen to him and to even think where he would be now scares me because he is just a tiny 6 week old kitten.

Simba my 12 y/o cat has spent all the days of his life indoors Minus the One time he got out and was gone 3 days in the woods and came back, that was terrifying. In my Opnion Cats are just fine living indoors....they are happy, healthy, playful and spoiled, there is no reason to put them outside if you dont have to. I read that indoor cats live longer and healthier lives then outdoor cats. I would also be worried of them running off, getting stolen, ran over or becoming another animals meal. Dont even get me started on the horror's of Halloween night, that is just sick.

The same EXACT thing happened to me, but my sister saw it. Our cat Leo was a stray, so we let him stay outside (before we found out he had FeLV--we kept him inside after we found this out, of course) after he was fixed and given his shots and stuff. He was extremely friendly, loved to be carried, hugged, and hated to be alone. My sister was watching the yard sale we were having (the whole neighborhood has a "flea market" in the yards twice a year that attracts a lot of people) but our street was closing down, so no one was out. She noticed these three girls walk by the house, and Leo walked up to them and wanted petted and stuff. So, they picked him up, and one girl just stuffed him in her jacket. My sister got up and screamed at the girl, and she threw him! Ugh...

My sister also got her cat a few years ago by saving her from some teenage boys. They were throwing this teeny kitten onto the roof of a house, and when she's roll down, they'd let her fall onto the ground, and do it again! My mom saw them and yelled at them like crazy, then took the kitten to the vet, who tured out to not suffer from any injuries. My sister was getting ready to move out, and decided to take her with her...and make her an indoor cat.
Ugh, just makes you sick.

Oh, that poor kitty. That's sooo sad I would have cried and cried and cried.

Have you phoned the police yet? Please do, remember since it's behind a school it's only a matter of time before an innocent child stumbles upon it. I doubt the cops would be able to solve the case but at least someone could clean it up.

RIP little angel, if you were mine that never would have happened.

Yes, please contact the authorities. They need to know this type of person or people are running amok in the area. Anyone who would torture an animal is also a threat to human society. All psychopaths have a history of animal torture, usually when young.

So sorry this has happened. I don't know what else to say.

I've reported it on the non-emergency line. I appreciate all the support... it still bothers me. I can see it in my head and it's just horrible. Normally dead animals don't bother me, but this was just gross.
