never did. Before I changed to 4-midnight shift permanently, I worked one evening on Tuesdays 4-midnight. One night when I got home it was about 1-1:30am. When I pulled someting ran real fast off my porch. Small but never did see what it was. Moved too fast. The food has not been touched since. I still have food out but nothing is eating it.

I just came in doors from spotlighting looking for eyes in the woods. Dont' see anything.

I want a motion detection camera. Like hunters use. Not sure if I can afford it this payday or not. Before a month is out I can.

I am going to stake the woods with steak........ I want to know what it out there. If I can talk husband into going with me I would like to walk a few acres back and stake it there. A ways from the house. Back where we found the animal bones.

Jenn, Jenn, Jenn....

Those shortcuts can get pretty scary sometimes can't they?!?!

(just kidding, but couldn't resist)

Steve is the one that does has his bonfire piles here. I keep all my burning to the barrels. You're a lucky gal and I hope you and Juan are feeling better now.

Don't you get too nosey out in those woods and get yourself in trouble. Your kitties need you intact and healthy.

Your life is plenty exciting, you can take a break and be dull for a while now. Stay safe!

Have you thought about installing flood lights with motion detectors around your house.
They turn on at night when movement occurs.
They are not expensive.

We have mountain lions in our area...
they do attack animals & people.
It would not take much for a mountain lion to rip your enclosure and take some of you kitties.
I think flood lights might be one more tool to keep you and your babies safe.

Mountain Lions are magnificent animals...

Flood lights sound like a great idea!! I am thinking of putting a dog run around the cat enclosure so the girls and Charlie can have access to running around their perimeter. Something about 10' wide. Maybe 15 feet. I know a moutain lion can jump that far but it would be slightly more difficult with barking dogs down their throat.... Because with a 15' wide dog run the ML would have to jump 15 foot out at an angle to land 10' in the air on top of the enclosure. This can be on the woods side.

And I have another plan.... I have been looking at cameras. I want to take pics of bears and mountain lions.

I think the flood lights are an excellent idea too.
You're braver than I am..Mountain Lions are beautiful, but I wouldn't want to run into one face to face...taking a steak on in the woods would be the last thing I'd do

Well, fixing to head out to work on "kitty land"........ Hubby and I are both off today so hopefully we can get some major progress made.....

Things are finally looking different around here. We are through burning trash too. Finally found an individual who is willing to do a trash service down a country dirt road. We have already had "one ton" of odds and ends moved away from here. We even helped them load it. They are going to pick up twice a month..... Yeah!!! We are thrilled and have passed the word down to the other neighbors down the way.

Also, this morning I took this pic of my guard kitties. I can't tell what the heck they see but then I don't have cat eyes. But they are very intent on something....... Probaby a bug outside........ From the right at Star in the window, Cookie the black one, Dovey the striped one and Kissey the pale grey tortoise..

We also went ahead and burned off the rest of the front yard to get ready for new spring grass. Got the backyard racked and ready to go too......

The woods are our project....... an on going one. Eventually we will have pics of "kitty land".......

And here are my little twin kitties.......... they have played hard so far today...... I think they are so beautiful..... Never seen kitties with this coloring. They have an appointment set in about a week [Not sure which day. Husband set it] to get fixed.

God only knows what those little stinkers see...it might be a gnat a mile down the road!!

Kitties do some strange things, Elliott was sitting in our bedroom window this morning keeping watch on the neighbors satellite dish he might be seeing the signal coming in for all I know.
I was watching him closely...this is the first time I've had the windows open since we brought him in, I was hoping smelling the fresh air wouldn't make him think he was getting back outside.
I didn't seem to faze him thank goodness.

I can't wait to see pictures of "Kittyland" Jenn.

The Twins are beautiful!

kitty land is coming along fine.......... I can't work on it tomorrow because I have to work 12 hrs. I have been slaving away about 3 hrs every morning before I go to work. I nearly have everything de-rocked and raked...... That I do believe has been the hardest so far.......

My blisters have blisters.

what we have decided to do is this. Since the enclosure now is 10x20 and 10 feet tall, we are going to go straight out with it to approx 10x60 or so.....

The inside fence line will be a temp fence or a stand alone fence so I can add another 10' section running down the same way...... to make it 20 feet wide.

Then we will add another section to make it 30 feet wide and just keep doing this.

The length will remain the same. But the width will keep changing by 10 feet. As we add a section we will just keep removing the outside fence line leaving the poles for support so we can add new wire for the top.... This will be the easier way for the building of it and the quickest to get them more room. Getting the land ready while working full time is the hardest part.

It will be easier to get the posts straigh that way.... If any of that makes sense.

We also have a hugh cedar tree 50' tall or so that Juan is going to cut down in the next couple days. We are going to cut the branches so they will fit in a 10 feet area and we are goign to lay the tree in their enclosure so they can play in the branches.

They will have running room as it widens later. I think they will really like branches to climb in. It is a big strong tree. We are going to leave the trunk in the ground approx 6 feet tall so they can jump on it.

I want to create a yard for them with things to climb that are natural......

And eileen ........Jimmy is doing great. don't have any new pics of him. I'll get some in the next couple days.

I traded a day today so I have been working fast and furious on the yard and kitty land....... I like the ground where th eenclosure is going to be because it is good dirt. Post holes are easy to dig in this area. Since I have been clearing a large area, grass is already trying to grow there. I am leaving some of the huge rocks too for them to sit on. Making it snake proof is going to be a job. I am goign to have to buy some sort of garden fence to put around it. A mesh of sorts than a snake can't go through. I am dreading snake season. I have been raking rocks and raking leaves so the ground is clear where I need to walk. I am eliminating dens or trying to.....around my house before it happens.

As of right now, I am in the house but a few mintues ago, the dogs were raising cain and all the cats made a mad dash inside the house... Fear........... So I went outsdide with a flash light. My heart was pounding but I managed to get a flood light plugged in to the ouside socket. I did not see anything so I went into he back yard with the dogs and my flashlight. I walked the fence lines and saw eyes. I walked back to the house and got my camera and the eyes were still there. I lightened one pic of them but I can't see what it is......

Any ideas? Where we had the one bedroom trailer out back is where this was taken. The trailer has been knocked to the ground but we have not cleared the debris yet, so there is a lot of tin and wood back there. It is about 50' from where I took the picture. I took several more but no eyes were in them. I could also hear something on the tin rythmically hitting the tin. It was spooky..

Check these out. I MUST get that motion camera... I just have to!!!

I just can't tell what it is. It could be anything. But what ever it was, it was not afraid. It was watching me too. Juan is going to flip when I tell him. I was also standing uphill from this. These eyes were low to the ground by a tree. when it is daylight I will go look for tracks by the tree and see if anything is there. The ground is hard so I am not expecting to see anything.

Do you mind if I ask where you are? Your place sounds like where I live. I am in central NM mountains. We have mountain lions, bobcats, bears, coyotes, wild boar, big rattlers.....you name it!. I have a 30 X30 foot cat pen, that is inside the outer perimeter fence of the yard. The cat love it. Where I am now I have a Juniper tree they can climb without being able to escape, but at my old place I did what you are doing with the cedar tree.

There is a mountain lion that marks on a tree right outside our pasture, and it also killed some goats at the people who live over the hill from us.

Those motion cameras are AWESOME. I bought a couple of the digital ones on ebay for $100 to send to New Orleans for the people maintaining the feeding stations post hurricane Katrina. They are a great way to keep track of what animals are coming to eat. I think Wal Mart carries them now in the sporting goods section as well.

Those eyes seem pretty wide setm which makes it look BIG, even if it was low to the ground. Whatever it is, it sure wasn't scared if you were able to do all that, with the dogs barking and still get eye photos. YIKES.

I live about 5 miles from Cape Fair Missouri and about 8 miles from Mark Twain National Forest in a very remote area a couple miles off of Hwy 76 in the back woods.

Our dirt road dead ends at table rock lake and has less people than the National Forest which I consider inhabited just because people hunt there or walk and of course they are the forest rangers. People drive wild animals off. It will never be built up here like some of the other areas of the lake because the old timers still own a lot of the land... The people here have been here for a while. And nothing is going to change as far as that.

There are about three house within a mile radius from me that have people living in them. Behind us is government land. At least 1000 wild acres.......possibly more. It's hard to say. Several mountains with nothing but land. Unfetered land. Unclaimed land. Unrefined land. Totally uninhabited. No fencelines. No clearings. Only nature at its best. Mountainous, rocky, rough wild land...

I love it in spite of the hard work living here.

I also am thinking of putting a dog run around the cat enclosure for added security for them..... Glad someone else did that too....

The area in the picture below, last year, had knee high grass or slighly taller. We just had too much to do and neglected it. I went out there one day and there were several bedded areas in it like something had been laying there.. 4- 6' long at least. Something had been lounging there. I suspect it was because it was in direct line of sight of the cat enclosure. The grass is gone now..... It will not be back. We are trying to claim our little part of the land slowly but surely.

One more thing..... I was real surprised when I saw the pictures. It showed up much better than with my flashlight..... I'm not sure if I posted info on a neighbors sighting of a mountain on this thread or another but a neighbor down the way had her dogs barking and spotlighted a mountain lion on some rocks in her back yard. It did not run when she spotlighted it. She backed up to her house real slow. Her hubby shot a bottle rocket at it to scare it off. I'm not saying this is a mountain lion because I can't tell but they are in the hills beyond my house. Of that I am convinced. I have heard them scream but have not seen one. It unnerves me a little. I don't walk without a dog anymore.

Jenn, kittyland is going to be fabulous ( I don't think I spelled that right ).

When I looked at the pictures of those eyes I got goosebumps.
It looks like something really big and I'm wondering if maybe it's the mountain lion that your neighbor saw.

How are Toe and Charlie Hound doing?

I'm so happy to hear that Toe is fully recovered and that Charlie is getting along so well.
Thank God you and Juan drove down that road at just the right time, or sweet Charlie might not be walking the earth right now.

Please don't go out looking for footprints yourself...I would be scared poopless to do that

charlie is doing great but we are having problems and are not sure what to do....

He has become very very food aggressive and has cowed emma. I still have to crate him at night because of the cats. I think he would hurt one if unsupervised. The dogs are all fighting. I break up approx 3 fights daily. food fights mosty but other times but fights in general. The dogs are miserable. One of them is going to end up getting hurt. I have to put dog food in several pans now and space them apart.

I am not sure how to solve this........ I am not sure if there is a solution. I can't give emma molly or muffin a chewy anymore unless charlie is outside or crated. He fights... He snaps at the cats over chewys. I have to keep him serarate if I give him snacks. He has changed the calm life of my long term dogs.... He is teaching my other dogs how to be aggressive and I don't like that.

But he is happy....... and doing good.....

Oh no.
I'm sorry to hear that ,Jenn.
I wonder if maybe Charlie had to fight other animals for food in his old home?
If that's the case though you'd think he'd have shown this behavior from the very beginning.
