We have 3 cats, they have 2 boxes. The boxes get cleaned every two days. One cat will urinate but not deficate in the box. This happens intermittently - it doesn't have to do with new litter or anything like that. She also is the least friendly of the three and will leave the area where the three are eating if one of the other two are pushy. All of the cats are over 1 year old and have been together for almost 10 months now. What to do???

My vet suggests 1 1/2 boxes per cat and two kinds of litter. Of course the boxes must be clean.
Good luck. Read the available links.

With 3 cats and two boxes, you need to scoop the boxes at least twice daily. Just imagine if it were you....would you want to sit and concentrate on a toilet full of your own and other people's pee and poop? I doubt it! And, just imagine having to STAND in other people's pee and poop to do your thing. ICK!

I think you will find that if you add a box AND scoop twice daily, your problem will be solved.

(P.S. I know scooping is a pain, but taking 3 minutes twice a day to scoop is a lot better than finding poop on the floor and having to clean IT up!)

Our Sydney only pees outside his litter-box , only if he "thinks" it is filthy ... So scooping every day and new litter every 5 dyas (I have just this one cat !) works out fine now ! No more accidents ..
Isn't it possible to give that kitten a seperate box ?? Maybe , it just doesn't want to "go" on another cats "business" !!
Success !!
