I have 4, 5 week old kittens, and one cat (1 yr old jeada) doesn't like the other kitties at all, she avoids them by climbing on furnature, and hiding from them. I try to introduce them but she just growls at them, she doesn't want to come out at all, and if she does shes growling when the kitties follow her, thinking that she is there mother. I am worried if she will hurt them when I am not around. If they get close enough she pat them with her paw (no front claws). When jeada was little she didn't like having another cat around then either, it took her awhile to get used to him, once they got close he died.(chett, died 1 yr ago). Since he passed she was all lonely and would look at herself in the mirror as if it was him. I know she has not been abused, we got her early because her mom died too. I don't know why she doesn't like the new kitties.

It can take some time to adjust to new kitties in the house. She isn't being mean to them by giving them a clawless pat on the head - cats don't have a lot of ways of saying bug off!

You can try seperating her from the kittens, perhaps giving the kittens their own room and letting Jeada have the run of the house. Swap bedding (if the kittens aren't making a mess of it) between them and let her sniff at them through the door.

Also, have a read through some of the past threads - introducing new cats is a subject of constant interest and you'll find loads of ideas and strategies in some other threads - and no doubt others will be along soon to share with you!

well they were always in the lower level of the house, and the mother cat decided she wanted them up stairs, I think jeada is used to the fact that she was the head cat of the house and now she has the little ones that take the attention away from her. I will see what i can do as far as putting them in a separate room. thx for the advice

That's what were all here for! Good luck with her, and remember it's not all or nothing - if one thing doesn't work, there are other things you can try.

She is behaving completely normal, or would you like to suddenly have a stranger in your home ? Don't interfere, let the cats getting together of their own. The more you protect the kitties, the more your cat will be jalous. And let her growl at them, she has to show that she is the boss and that she was here before, she is just defending her territory. That the kitties follow her is a good sign and you will see everything goes into place of its own. Be just patient and let them found their way alone. A little paw hit or hissing doesn't bother a kitty !
