We actually save quite a bit of money but I think were it adds up is the little extras we get accustomed too. Many times when I fill the truck up with gas and pay inside I pick up a soda (or beer) and some type of snack. Stopping for coffee and a breakfast item in the morning. I buy lots of magazines I wither have to subscribe to the ones I like and read the others at the libarary. I buy books at Goodwill instead of the bookstore. Checkecing the weekly grocery ads (wed/Thurs by me) and plan to go to the store with a list and stick to the list!!
Have fun!!

Embesslement! Learn to embessel money from youself via one of those fancy intenational banks that have an automatic savings feature that will electronicly tranfer a pre-decided amount periodicly into your savings. When you realize your going to come up short for the monthly bills beleive me, You'll get creative!

Those are the websites I visit everyday.

My new year's resolution was to buy no non-food items unless they are 75% off.
(Easier to follow than a budget
)

It used to be when I was making money, I used to give myself allowances everyday. Every Monday I took $100 out of the bank in $20 bills which I put in the desk drawer, and everyday I take one $20 bill and spend it (that includes everything I would spend for the day). When the money is gone, it is gone. I didn't spend money on the weekends b/c I was busy spending time with my then-fiance (He is my hubby now)

I'm working towards paying off all of mine and Dh's debt. $4500 left to go.(not including my student loans, but that doesn't come into effect for 3 more years) and then we are going to start saving for our down payment for a house and car.

My suggestion is to get rid of debit cards and hide those nasty credit cards
. This way you have to go to the bank to get money and it limits your ability to buy something on a whim. It really helps.

Another suggestion is to only spend bills and then put the change from the bills into a jar.

I really hope you can find a way to save up the money for your new floor soon.

I was actually just thinking about how much our debit cards have zapped our change jar!! We never get much change anymore b/c all the cash stays in the bank! We'll definately start using cash again, so that all the extra can go into the jar!

I'm making out a refined budget right now, and its amazing how much money gets lost in little things like candy bars!

shengmei- thanks for the websites, those are great!!

When I was in my teens & wanted to go on a trip-my grandfather started me off with a quarter to put in a special jar-at the end of each day any quarters I had went into the jar-it amazed me how fast it added it up-I still do it years later-each time the jar fills up (The jar now says Cat Person on it
) I wrap the coins & put them right into my savings account-A few times I had to use the jar to help with unexpected expenses-it would have several hundred dollars in it.

People use credit cards b/c they think they have money to pay it off later.

At the average rate of 17% APR the only way this would make sense is for people to get a 17% raise every year so every $1 you spend right now is equal to $1.17 you spend in the future.

Unfortunately, this would not happen to most people. That's why it is never good to spend your future money. I never had a credit card and I don't ever plan to have one.

We don't use credit cards. The only credit card we have is Care Credit and its hardly ever used. We only have it for those unexpected emergencies (a filing falls out of your tooth, or one of the furbabies gets really sick) and since it can only be used for medical expenses, we don't have the temptation to use it for other things.

I don't have a car and I am always amazed how much hubby spends on his SUV, even though he splits the SUV with his brother and each of them pay half.

Splitting cars would be a great idea. Nobody uses a car 24/7 and although sometimes you have to wait an hour to use the car, the end results are worth it.

I'm not THAT desperate to save up enough for my floor!!!

My dad always did something like that (what am I talking about, he still does it now). If he sees that someone has thrown out anything electronic in their curbside trash, he picks it up, brings it home, fixes it and sells it.

I think picking up something off the side of the road is a little more dignified than "dumpster diving" though!!
