Hello Everyone,

We're corresponding with a couple of breeders for a kitten and I will have to make a choice quite soon however I haven't actually done business with a breeder before this is the first time I'm getting a cat from a breeder. We're hoping to maybe even become the first Maine Coon breeders in our country but thats another story.

My question is, once we decide on the kitten, how should I be letting the other breeder know that we won't be going for that kitten after all? I'm very new to this and just wanted to ask your advice as to how to do this.
I don't know maybe this is a stupid question but I just don't want be rude or impolite or say something wrong to them. Both breeders have been so friendly and helpful.
Thank you!

just be honest, most breeders know that prospective owners do lots of research (which of course they prefer) and wouldnt mind about a final selection.

I'm a breeder and I agree with the advice you've already been given. Just be honest and polite. As breeders we know good new kitten owners are shopping around and that is the responsible thing to do. Investigate and research. Afterall you are choosing a kitten that will be your pet for his/her entire lifetime. That could be 20 or more years, so it's important to choose wisely.

I've had "feelers" out with more then one breeder. When you find the right kitty, just simply tell the other breeders, that you've picked out the right kitten for you and thank them for all their help and hope they find the right home for their kittens.

As a breeder, I would not be hurt, etc. if a person chose another breeder. But I'd appreciate knowing they found one so that I can offer my kitten to another interested party.
