This is the first time I've cut the claw too close and I feel so bad. My cat was fine afterwards and ready to play, but then I saw the red on her paw...the last claw I clipped.

What should be used to rinse off an injury? Also, I saw the mention of septic powder to stop bleeding. Pet stores on Sunday don't open until a few hours from now. Would it still do any good to get it by then?

What else should I do? Thank you so much, I feel so bad.

I did the same thing with my little girl and it was after the pet stores had closed. She was fine but I did get something to have in the house to use if it happened again. She was a little skittish about having her claws done again. It was a while before that one needed it again but when I went to do that one she fought it a little. Now shes back to normal with the claw clipping, doesn't like it but she's resigned to it. I think once it clots on it's own it's probably best to just leave it alone.

styptic powder can be bought in any drug store - it's the stuff guys use to stop bleeding after they cut thmeselves shavig - it's always good to have on hand. They also use it in nail salons for the same reason - but there it's a green liquid.

I did the same thing once (flour), when I cut the nail on Joss' paw a bit too close and it wouldn't stop bleeding.

Worked like a charm

I went to a pet store and couldn't find the styptic powder but now I know I can get it somewhere else. I would like to have it on hand for the future, though I will be extra careful from now on and hope not to make this mistake again! Thanks everybody!
