Here are some good shots of my akita Misty. She was awful hot after our long walk!

And a close up of her smile!

What a cool looking dog. My parents had an Akita when I was a child. They named him Bruiser. He was more black than your girl. I think Akita's are so cool. They look sort of like bears.

Thanks. Her coloring is called pinto, white with brown spots. Her muzzle used to be black, but it is gray now that she is about 9 years old! Bruiser is a great name for a big dog!

She is beautiful! A friend of the family has two Akitas, one is named Bear, the other named Zeppelin. I used to think the boy Bear was huge, then they got Zeppelin as a puppy and she grew to be HUGE!! I am about 5'6" and she easily comes up to about elbow level on me. They look scary if you don't know them, but they are the biggest babies I've ever seen. Bear will crawl up in his "dads" lap and lay upside down like a baby!

What a beautiful smile!! I love Akitas, they look so soft
She gets on with the kitties? I've heard that breed can be a little kitty aggressive

Zeppelin sounds like a HUGE dog! Misty is about 70 pounds, so not large by akita standards.

We got Misty at 8 months old. Her original owner had a male akita and a siamese cat that liked to play chase with the dogs! So she is very very good with cats. I have seen her attacked twice by cats, and neither time did she harm the kitty.

When we had one cat at a time, Misty would be friends with them. But since we have multiple cats, they have no use for her, and she is just the odd man out. She occasionally tries to join their fun, and become part of a chase, and all the kitties will sit down and stare at her. (Poor old girl!)

In general, I don't think akitas are good with cats. But they are incredibly intelligent, and can be taught to behave with cats.

She's a very pretty girl!

I just started grooming two of them. Kuma and Kodi. They are awesome dogs. I always heard Akitas were nasty... but these two are the friendliest ever. They're all bark and no bite. Very friendly, nice dogs. I LOVE their big faces, the only thing I can't stand is the hair!

She is beautiful! My friend had a neighbor who had one. He used to play through the fences in their backyard with their basset hound and lab.

Yes, there is just too much fur on an akita, especially when they blow their coat. We use a currycomb from the horses on Mist sometimes. You can just brush and brush daily, and the fur keeps coming! Sometimes it looks like it snowed, when you see the big circle of fur left in the yard. Oh, the birds love to line their nests with it, though!

I adore akita's! I had a friend who had 3 of them, and they all weighed over 100 lbs, but the female outweighed them both. She was also the sweetest dog ever. The 2 boy's were hell on wheels, and were very good guard dogs. Noone got into that house without a proper escort, but once accepted, you were in!
