Okay, I've got my six kittens and no mom anymore.
Some of you may remember me from just a couple of weeks back. Let me explain the story a little to fill you guys in.
Holstein was a stray that showed up, we brought her in during her pregnancy, and she had her litter.
Well, she was always a great house cat. Always went in litter fine, very mild mannered.
Over the last week she had been getting mean towards us at times. Hissing a little....which was odd because she never ever did that with us even when the babies were born. She started pooping on the FLOOR the last two days....we're talking not even using the litter box at all. I don't know what had gotten into her.
Well she had been trying for a couple of weeks to get outside, which we weren't letting her. Today, however, when I was at work one of my children opened the door before my husband could get to it and Holstein got out.
She bolted.
She is nowhere to be seen.
I can't help but feel her behavior problems were due to her not being allowed to go outside. What do you guys think?

Okay, now to the very important part. She doesn't appear to be interested in coming back to the house. I have her six kittens. They will be five weeks on Monday.
They all eat semi-solid kitten food and drink water. They all go in the litter box too. However, I know they're too young to not have nursings.
What do I do? Should they get KMR in a bowl or bottle? Do they really need it?
I could use some help.
I love the babies bunches, keeping two of them so naturally I do not want them to do without proper nutrition.

Thanks for any help you guys can give me. I'm worried about the babies.

I'm not sure if the kittens still need formula, but just to be safe I would pick up some KMR and mix it in their food. And get a trap to catch the Mom so you can get her spayed. Poor thing will get preggers right away, I'm sure, and she doesn't need to be going through it again!

She probably just needed a break. I agree with Becki- get some KMR and mix it up, put some Iams kitten food in it and let it soak for about 20 minutes then feed them this mixture. Also get mom trapped and spayed quickly or you will have more than five kittens to worry about.

She might well have gone into heat again, and come back pregnant after a couple of days out. If you can get her back then I would get her spayed right away.

I agree that you should try to trap mom so she can be spayed. If she does come back, I would make sure there are 2 doors between her and the outdoors.

I realized that the runt of the litter doesn't eat nearly as much as the other babies so I gave it KMR in a bottle and it drank it like crazy. I gave all the kittens, except Chris-he's a big big boy and had completely weaned his mama already, milk in a bottle and they all drank a whole bottle between them all.

They seem to be doing really well. They aren't crying for their mama. I think it helps that there are six of them.
I'm going to try and get Holstein back. I'm figuring she went into heat too. She was clearly mad after doing business all over the floor.
I hope she comes back so I can fix her.
Thanks for the help ladies.

When Holstein comes back....I would take her to be spayed since she has already escaped outdoors.
