I know this may be a silly question, but is it possible for a 2 month old kitten to eat too much? My kitten is hardly picky--will eat anything in his path, but he eats a whole lot and looks like he may be kinda chunky....should I be measuring his food? I thought young, weaned kittens were supposed to free feed?

I don't think it's possible for a kitten to overeat, assuming you're talking about kitten food and not a slice of pizza or something.

If he looks like he is getting unhealthily fat you might want to get bloodwork done on him to make sure everything's working right. If it just looks like baby fat though I wouldn't be worried as long as everything starts to even out as he grows and he's playing and active and healthy otherwise. I was a chubbly little kid too and then turned into a beanstalk for a while.

Has your kitten been to the vet yet?? If not, he really should be brought in for his first distemper shot and also to receive deworming. Oftentimes kittens have worms which can make them look rather plump and cause them to eat a lot. If he has been to the vet and received deworming, I wouldn't be concerned about free feeding him unless the vet has concerns about his weight.

Yes, I work at a vet and the cat has been for everything (that it can have right now, including a deworming and fecal which was negative)....and yes it's a kitten food, lol. My puppy just eats less than this cat and I was worried.
