Can anyone please help? I have 2 cats, both females and sisters. They are around 1 1/2 years old and I have had them since they were 6 weeks. I have had both of them spayed, but the problem is one of them is constantly meowing really loudly and constantly. Every night is the same thing and I don't know whats wrong with her. She's quite an affectionate cat, but doesn't like to sit with you for long, as soon as you pick her up she stops crying, lies with you for 5 mins then jumps down and starts again. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you

What is your reaction to her meowing really loud? If you are getting up to pet her then it may just be attention. Also, check her food and water she may be hungry/thirsty.

I don't always pet her, but sometimes she can be crying for over an hour so sometimes I can't stand to see her like that and I've got to pick her up. She's always got fresh water and food down. Whenever I try to put more food down for her she turns her nose up at it. Her sister is not like this at all, and is quite happy to lie and sleep, whereas she seems very restless, especially in the morning and at night

I think the first thing you should do is take her to a vet to make sure there's no physical problem. Only then can you be sure it's a behavioural thing.

Presuming she gets the ok from the vet, it may be that she has a greater need for play and interaction than your other cat. Cats do vary a lot in how much attention they need. Do you play with her a lot? Try spending more time playing interactive games with her to tire her out (mentally as well as physically). Also try giving her food in a food puzzler as that will keep her occupied for a while.

It may also be that she's just a vocal cat and if you want to discourage this you need to ignore her when she's making a noise (even if it goes on for a long time) and play with and pet her when she's being quiet. If you respond to her crying by giving her attention she will continue. If you ignore her for a while then give in and respond to her you are giving her the message that if she cries for long enough then she will get attention.

You didn't mention if she can go outside. Or has she to stay inside during the night ? Some cats like going out during the night and sleep during the day. I had one which was so. In the evening she started to give a concert because she didn't want to stay with me, but wanted going out.
