I need help. My cat has recently taken to sleeping in the litter box! He is getting up there (16 yrs, min) so I guess he's entitled to his weird old man quirks. I've tried to explain to him that sleeping in the cat box is not healthy, but you know how cats listen...

Maybe your cat is like us when we get old, having to get up to go pee multiple times in the night. Maybe he/she has decided the hell with it that it is just more convient to sleep there and let what has to happen happen. I know i have thought that some nights. LOL

My Festus will roll in the litterbox when it is just filled with clean litter sometimes. I imagine her saying, "Hallelujah, finally some litter with no Garfield or Jasmine stink in it!"

Maybe get a second litterbox for your old boy to rest in, so he can sleep in one and pee and poo in the other. Also, be sure he is urinating ok. Maybe he is having urinary difficulties and needs a quick vet check. (Usually a good idea any time an elderly pet has a big behavior change.)

When I used to transport Hobbes, my childhood cat, he used to chill out in his litter box too. I think it might be a safety thing; it's where they feel the most comfortable.

Do you have a pic?
