I noticed a big black beetle outside this morning, trying to turn back over, and walk.....so I flip him over and he flips back over to his back. So this goes on for like 10 minutes, he tries to walk and cant. So my dog(Jimmie) thinks hes some bad doggy
and barks at it like its some vicious beast or something, lol. I just went out there, and its still on its back with its 'lil legs just a kicking away. I wonder if I should just kill it to end its suffering
It is a nasty looking thing with pinchers. What do ya think??

But I have to really laugh at Jimmie!

Good Boy!!! Protecting your mommy from that big nasty beetle!!!

LuckyGirl probably would've just ate it, then I'd be prying beetle guts out of her mouth!

LOL-it was quite comical to watch a big ole' goofy boxer just yapping away and pawing at it, and it just lays there.
He sounded vicious too, lemme tell ya!

He can't stand up because his legs are stretched out the wrong way from being upside down. it takes them a minute to get their legs back in the right position. I always do what butterflydream said- put them in the grass. That way they can use blades of grass to turn themselves over when they are ready
it'll also keep them from roasting in the sun or getting crushed

I vote save the poor beetle. I always put bugs I find back outside or onto the grass.

You can try putting him on the grass & see if he recovers. But if he doesn't, then I vote to end the suffering quickly - some bugs have a short life span and are reaching the end, and the ants will find them & literally pick them to pieces, certainly a most unpleasant way to go.

I am so impressed at how many compassionate people are on TCS!

Well not long after I posted this, I went out to check on him and my nephew had already crushed him
So I guess he wanted to end his suffering, or he just didnt like the beetle!
I was going to put him in the grass though....RIP Mr Beetle
