Okay, I signed! What a great idea - I hadn't heard of that before. I know that cost of neutering discourages many people from adopting a pet; and the more pets there are, the more the boost to the local economies, since pet owners have to buy pet food & LOVE to buy toys, etc.

Neutrasol (I believe that is what the chemical is called) will not be licensed until 2008 for cats.

Great idea, though

Will it also reduce the risk of pyometra and ovarian/uterine/testicular cancers?

I would have to know before I would support it.
For me, controlling pet population is secondary, the primary reason I have my pets fixed is their health.

I too would want to know that - last time I read about a contraception pill for cats, it wouldn't, and that is a very important reason for me, as I lost a rescue cat to mammary cancer.

I was also wondering about heat and spraying, but I don't believe such a product would replace speutering, but supplement it. It would be very useful for feral colonies, I suppose.

UH Keith---- have you been to the pregnant cats and kittens board? VERY few people want to spay their female cats or dogs! They WANT them to have kittens. If you don't belive me check out the board!

Great cause Keith!

I have to say, for every one person who wants "just one litter" or purposely back yard breeds, there are 10s or 100s of people who are responsible pet owner. Just check out the Caring for Strays and Ferals to see the lengths that average people go to in order to help stop this horrid overpopulation problem.

While non-surgical sterlization wouldn't necessarily be the best option for owned pets, for feral colonies it would be a god-send!

I'll move this to Caring for Strays and Ferals.

I think it would be great for the ferals ... I live in an area that thinks cats are second class citizens... Animal control only picks up and deals with dogs...

I have a small feral colony which I am trying to fund TNR and found only one person doing this for five to seven counties ... I am lucky that my vet will help but I likely have to buy a trap ..... A shot over surgery would be great since my vet says she puts them under in the cage

Ah, that is a benefit I hadn't thought of. Hopefully it can help our TNR angels. And maybe people who are ignorant of s/n and don't want it done for whatever silly reason is the flavor of the week will consider it.

I just hope that people who would have their cats s/n regularly will continue to do so.
