Cat pooping everywhere

Hi, I'm at my wits end. My husband is about to take one of our cats to the shelter. Here's my situation - I have 2 cats from the same litter named Daisy and Onslow. They are both 7 yo, not real active but only a tiny bit overweight. They eat only dry Science Diet, almost exclusively the fish flavor. They're really picky about what they eat. They won't even eat treats. Here's what Daisy does that's causing a problem - She will hunker down, do that wiggle thing that cats do when they get the crazies (but understand that this is really the only time she does this) then takes off, and poop goes flying out of her, sorry to be gross, and she leaves a trail of perfectly formed poop behind her, sometimes across the length of the room. She has never peed anywhere, Onslow doesn't do this. I think she knows she's doing it, in fact I think she does the crazies thing in order to make it happen. It's incredibly frustrating. Has anyone seen this? What can I do? Other than that she's a nice cat and I would like to fix this.

Thanks,
Cathy in Tx

You need to get your cat to the vet. It sounds to me as if Daisy has a real problem with constipation. What you are describing sounds like what you will sometimes see in constipated cats in which bowel movements are very painful which leads the cats to run to try to escape the pain. And, given the pain, she would avoid the litter box when it is poop time because she associates the box with the pain that comes when she has the urge to poop.

So, please take her to the vet right away so that you will know for sure what is causing this problem. Constipation is very treatable and my bet is that this is what is going on.

By the way, you can click here to read more about poop problems in cats.

Please let us know what the vet says.
