As many of you know, I take in FeLV+ kitties, and they have a higher likelihood of passing away at a young age. Well, I think Simon is starting to get sick, this is the day I've been dreading for a year and a half, I love this cat sooooo much, and I'm very scared that I won't be able to do anything for him
I've decided not to wait anymore and I'm taking him to the vet tonight, I thought at first maybe he was just cranky because of the kittens, but he started drooling and his breath reeks, FeLV+ cats develop mouth diseases at a higher rate than regular cats, and he just isn't acting right, Please if you can spare me some vibes that this isn't anything serious and that Simon will stay with me for many years I would appreciate it

Cats don't handle stress well, and adding new kittens can be stressful. I hope this is just a minor setback due to the stress. (I have that happen with Garfield sometimes, as he has feline herpes!) Prayers that Simon has something minor that can be corrected easily!

Have them do a stool sample check, too. I've had wormy kitties who just don't smell right!

Feel better soon, Simon. Your meowmie needs you to stay strong for now.

I've considered this, but Simon started acting "off" before the kits came, and he never had a bad reaction when I brought another cat home before
I've also wondered about worms, but I checked him and checked the litter box and haven't seen a trace of them.... I hope it is something simple

Hope Garfield stays healthy too!

Katie, I'm sending lots of prayers and vibes for Simon and you.
He's such a handsome boy with a lot of personality and I'm so glad to have had the chance to meet him. Please let us know how things go at the vet.

Thanks everyone, I'm trying to keep myself calm and not to think about it too much, cause I'm literally on the verge of panic, this cat means so much to me, he's been with me, giving all the love and headbutts I ever wanted, through a rough time and if he is sick I'll be a wreck, I can't lose my Simers! Its one of the hazards of adopting these kitties, but I really wouldn't have it any other way.... I guess because he's been so healthy up to now that I fooled myself into thinking he would never get sick

well here's the update- he has an abcessed tooth! he's getting it pulled tomorrow, thank goodness that's all it is. But here's some background- about 2 1/2 months ago I took simon to the Emergency vet because the side of his face swelled up really bad, very suddenly. The E-vet told me it was a bug bite and gave him a steroid shot and some Benadryl. The swelling went down so i figured that's what it was, after all they're the vet. Well Simon scratched his face open, I figured because it was a bug bite and it itched! That spot would heal and then he would scratch it open again, I figured being a cat, if it itched he was scratching it and eventually it would heal.... well that "bug bite" was his abcessed tooth and the wound on his cheek is where the abcess burst through his skin!!!! I'm torn between being angry at the vet for the misdiagnosis and angry at myself for not taking him in for a follow up with the regular vet
Simon also has lost 3 lbs in the last 2.5 months, 2 of which he probably could have stood to lose but the last lb made him too skinny, this I noticed, that he had lost weight, but I thought it was maybe becasue I was feeding him wet food, so he wasn't eating as much dry, and yes I had seen him eating dry. I just cannot imagine the pain that my baby has been in with no way to tell me! He was acting a little off lately, but had remained just as lovey and affectionate with me.... al I can say is thank goodness he started to drool
I take him in tonight, as keeping one cat away from food and water with 7 others plus 2 dogs is a near impossible task
plus I start work at 6:30 and they don't open till 7:30, so its a little easier this way- so can everyone keep Simon in their thoughts that his surgery goes well? Thanks to everyone for your vibes so far, it worked as far as this not being as horrible as I thought it might be
