A new "old" video starring Chloe

Colin deferred your question to me since I'm the one who has been teaching our kitties to shake paws. I'm even teaching Colin how to shake...the kitties paws that is...hehehe, he tries but I think he confuses them!

First I find a treat they really like. Then I teach them to sit...even for their meals. I show them the treat, give them one for free so they know what I have in my hand (I always us my left hand to hold the treat) and I give them the comman to sit by saying the word "sit" and with my right hand, I push their bottoms down a bit. After repeating this several times (or more if you have a very stubborn cat (like Jack), they will learn to sit without having to push their bottoms down. When they do this, give them lots of praises and the treat! Just be consistant and patient.

Once your cat masters the sit command, I tell them to sit, give them a treat and then I show them another treat (always in your left) and tell them to "shake" and with my right hand I tap their paw and then hold their paw while I give them a treat. I repeat this several times and praise them when they let me hold their paw with out pulling away. Eventually they will give you their paw without having to tap hold the paw you want. You need to do this for 10-15 minutes a day for a couple of days with some cats but with Bart and Chloe, they learned this in one day!

Make sure there are no distractions like other cats or people when you first teach them. Eventually they will do this when you have company over!
