My orange tabby Sparky has recently began to show white balding spots on his ears. Not on his head, or the area around his ears, but only on the actual thin skin of his ears. They don't seem to be causing him any pain, and he doesn't react at all if we touch them. We haven't noticed him or his fellow cats scratching or biting at his ears, and no strange behaviour, changes in eating or sleeping habits, etc.

What could cause this? is it dangerous? I should note that over the weekend we moved and got new furniture, so it could be related to that.

A few things come to mind: (1) If you've just moved, it could be stress related (2) a food allergy - did you change his food recently? (3) perhaps ringworm (4) flea allergy.
