I originally posted this thread under "Caring for Stray Cats and Ferals" in the thread entitled "Guess What We Found In Our Garden!!!" One of the members, Katie, told me that Harley would get more positive exposure in this thread, so i'm simply reposting the origional thread here. Harley is around 6 months, negative for Fiv, FeLV,and aside from being a little underweight, he is healthy. He went to the vet yesterday for tests and a check up. I am making his appointment tomorrow to set up a date for him to be neutered and vaccinated. He must go to an indoor- only home. He does very well around children and other animals. He uses a scratching post very well, and has excellent litter habbits. So without further adiou, here are the origional posts from the other thread. If you think you or someone you know think Harley could be the right little one for you, please pm me. Harley will be up for adoption as soon as he is fully recovered from his neuter. He will have a small adoption fee to cover the out of pocket expenses of food, litter, vaccinations, neutering, testing, meds, shelter, and also to ensure that he will not be "given" to an inappropriate owner who would use him as "bait" for dog fights or cause some other harm to him. Please pm me with any question. I will be posting a link of Harley's photobucket pictures underneath this post. Please check out this handsome boy's pictures! Thankyou!

Check out Harley's pictures! He's a cutie!

I'm pretty definite there's some sort of invisible sign that says "Come to this house, these people will take care of you" posted on my door!!! Ugggg...today when my mom came home from the grocery store she told me to go look outside in the flower beds, sure enough, there was a kitty rollin around in the hosta lillies! It looked up at me, meowed and ran over to me trying to get my attention. So being the sucker I am, of course it's safe and sound with us right now. I checked the kitty thoroughly outside, no signs of any med. issues or previous cat fights, clear eyes and nose, clean butt and fur. It's a male, i'd say he's between 4-6 months- he's underweight and tiny, but very energetic and sweet. I flea combed him- no fleas at all!!! and dewormed him, although i don't think he's wormy-it's just a safety thing. I kept him in a cage outside for a bit to evaluate him and get a feel for his temperment. He passed with flying colors, so i brought him in the house (caged and seperated from my kitties because he hasn't been tested yet.) He's a very very sweet little guy...i've named him Harley. Hehe, he's sitting on my lap at the moment helping me type. Haha, he's already spoiled rotten My mom is having catarac surgery tomorrow (please keep her in your prayers, she isn't eligable for the laser surgery- her eyes are really really bad) so i'm not going to be able to take him to a no kill shelter till tues or wed, if there are any openings. If not, i'm not quite sure what i'm going to do yet....i'll probably keep him and foster him until i can get a good indoor-only home for him. Eithor way, i don't ever want this little guy back out on the street in harms way again. He's definitely a stray, not a feral....i'm almost definite one of my lousy neighbors a few blocks over from me dumped off their cats when they moved a few weeks ago....i had my suspecions, but now they're confirmed...(when i went to check there weren't any cats around at the time). Irresponsible owners and breeders really tick me off!!!! But at the very least, this little guy is safe tonight and in out of the rain with food in his belly. I'll add some picture up here of him soon...he's a little tiger-tabby...very very handsome! I think his new name suites him too...when he purrs it sounds like a motorcycle...so Harley was a perfect fit for him. I'll keep everyone posted. Well, i'm off to tend to my latest foster baby- i really should tatoo the word "Sucker" to my forehead lol

Posted June 18th at 9:55pm

Thankyou for such kind posts everyone. Harley has settled in quite nicely tonight...he's sleeping with his blankets and the little teddy bear i gave him lol. I wouldn't mind him being a permenant addition to my home, but at the same time...the more kitties i take in, the less i am able to foster and take care of. Also my mom is having a very risky surgery tomorrow....so we will have doc appts. to attend to for quite a while- and she will be unable to work for over a month. I'm currently working 2 jobs and i am putting myself through college...so i want to be able to devote my remaining time to the furbabies i already own...although one more wouldn't be bad . Anymore than that would definitely be over my limit at this point and time. So whether i find a great indoor-only home for Harley-( which if anyone is intersted, please pm me or leave a post)....or if i am able to keep him myself, eithor way, i'm going to make sure this little guy has a great home. He deserves the best.

I'm posting some pictures of Harley below, please let me know if they're too big...i'm still figuring out how to post pics on TCS...i'm using Camedia and Photobucket.

Thankyou everyone for all of the lovely compliments. It's so wonderful to have the support of other cat site members! Harley is doing great today. I was a little worried today would be hectic with my mom's surgery and all, but everything went wonderfully. We just got back in and she's in bed for now. Harley is in his cage asleep at the moment. I'm about to get him out in a little while and hold him.lol, he's definitely a lap cat! i held him this morning for quite a while before i took my mom to the hospital, and he fell right to sleep. He's very loveable and very well socialized, so i just want to keep reinforcing that good behavior in him. He also seems to do quite well around my other kitties when he sees one ( he's seperated from them, but occassionally they'll pass by him ....he seems to like the company, but until he's tested and neutered, i'm not chancing anything. For now he is getting all of the love and attention he needs. Once again, i live in Memphis, so if anyone in or around TN is interested in the little guy, please let me know. He's definitely a keeper! I'm going to take more pictures later. I'll keep everyone posted.

Thankyou for everyone who has kept up with the story of this amazing little guy. Just a little update, tomorrow Harley is going to be tested for feline leuk. and feline aids. If he is positive for aids he has to be euthanized. If he is positive for leukemia- i will try to rehome him to someone who has leukemia positive kitties only because my kitties are negative and i don't want them to get it. If he is negative for both, then i will arrange his appointment to be neutered and vaccinated. Wish Harley luck tomorrow- i'm crossing my fingers his tests come out negative. After talking to the shelter i was planning on taking him to today, i've decided against it. I just found out that they've started to euthanize some of the kitties due to the mass feline overpopulation. I do not want this little guy to be euthanized since he is so adoptable, so i've taken out an add on petfinder.com for him and also, if anyone knows anyone who would love a little lap kitty, please contact me. You would be saving a life and giving a very wonderful kitty a great new forever home! He will have a small adoption fee to cover the overhead costs of housing, food, litter, medical testing, neutering ,and vaccination. Also, he must be indoors-only. He's been through such a rough start in his young life, i want to ensure that he never has to endure another day outside on his own again.

We just had a very good report from the vet this morning. After testing Harley for FIV, and FeLv, he is negative on both
He has a mild case of earmites, but it's not a big deal, i got him the single round treatment of Milbemite, so that should clear things up very quickly. By the way, i highly recommend Milbermite for anyone who has a kitty with earmites! It works wonders, i use it on all my fosters that have them.
Harley as well as all of my other kitties got their Frontline Plus today...so everybody should be good to go! All i have to do now is set up Harley's appointment to get neutered and vaccinated, then he will be all ready to go up for adoption. He weighs 7 lbs and the vet said he i was right and he's about 5-6 months old. He still needs to put some weight on, he's very skinny, so we're working on geting him to a healthy weight. I'll keep everyone posted. Right now he's in his cage asleep ( he had a long morning lol ).
Thankyou for everyone who has kept up with the posts on this amazing little guy.

He's still quite underweight.....but between the cat milk, dry food, and soft food....he should put on the a good amount of weight with the proper amount of time. He's such a sweet kitty. I just took a ton of pictures of him so i'm going to put the link on here for anyone who would like to look at him:
http://s81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...TiGeR/?start=0

I hope everyone's enjoyed this thread. I'm going to take Katie's advice and start a new post in the SOS section so he will hopefully get some more exposure. I'm not releasing him to a new home until he is neutered and fully vaccinated (i'm setting up the appointment tomorrow,so hopefully he'll get fixed soon.) When he is ready to go to his forever home, i have a few requirements, for the safety and wellbeing of harley. First off, he must be indoors only. Also, he will have a small adoption fee to cover the overhead costs of housing, food, litter, medical testing, neutering ,and vaccination. That way, i will be able to provide care for the next helpless kitty that follows the "invisible" sign to my doorstep. (Not to mention, people should never post "free to a good home" adds, There are numerous threads about that specific topic posted throughout TCS...i urge anyone who is not familiar with that topic to check out the threads!!!). So without further adiou, i'm going to start Harley's new thread under SOS....please, please, please check it out and send us some good vibes! Most people want "little kittens," so placing an adolescent kitty like Harley might prove to be a small challenge, even though he is very adoptable! Wish us luck!

Harley still needs a forever home! Please let me know if anyone would be interested. I have several guidelines for a potential adopter. I will also need a pre-adoption aplication filled out. He must be indoor-only, and there is a small adoptiong fee to cover the costs of neutering, vaccinating, med treatment, food, water, litter and housing. He is very sweet and is definitely a lap kitty. Please let me know if your interested or you know someone who might be able to give this little guy a loving, forever home! (No high-energy dogs please....but he does alright with calm ones and other animals
)

Good luck! I still have Gretta too (she's 4 months now)
. Courtesy petfinder listing, flyers at vets, comes with a spay certificate and (now) her shots. Likes to play with dogs!
.All I'm asking for is a good vet reference- nothing. zip. 2 calls, no takers, let alone come lookers. Never has it taken this long to find a home for one of my bottle babies! I don't know what else to do, but maybe run an ad in the paper (more $
). You have my empathy!

Nikki....have you posted about harley in your local community (ie vet offices, local papers, petstores)?? If not, I would definately post about him....oftentimes it is easier to find a new home in your community. If you need assistance in how to place an ad, there is a really good PDF called "how to find homes for homeless pets" that you can find here:

Already done that. But thankyou for the suggestions
. I have done a ton of adoptions before.....and have always been able to place my fosters....it seems like i am having the worst of luck placing Harley though- and it doesn't help that it is high kitten season
. I've already posted flyers for potential adoptors to look at in mulitple vets offices, petvax( low cost spay/neturer & vaccination clinic) , no- kill shelters, and also several pet stores. I posted an add for him on www.petfinder.com - but the responses were horrid! I had 7 emails from people in England offering me "thousands of dollars for my lovely pet i posted on the internet" - Gees! if that's not a scam i don't know what is! I reported it to yahoo and blocked those weirdos. So it seems like we've hit a bit of a rough patch trying to find Harley a home. I had him netuered, tested, vaccinated, dewormed, and lisenced....so he's ready to go to a forever home...the problem is just finding the right one
. But until then, he is being spoiled rotten at Colin's house.
Even Fosters, our new rescue dog we adopted in May, loves him...hehe, if only Harley loved him back
poor Fosters is scared to death of the cat ( don't worry, we're doing the proper introduction techniques....so they should hopefully acclimate to one another as time goes on.) There are no spots currently open at the places i volunteer for, so there is no room for him there. Even the adoption days are booked solid so i can't squeeze him in. At least Colin has offered to keep him at his house to i find him a home- I love my boyfriend! Well, that's the latest on the Harley story. Please send good vibes and keep us in your thoughts and prayers. The sooner i find Harley a home, the sooner i can help more animals in need. It's going to be several years before i will be able to save up and start a 501 c.3 non profit animal rescue, so in the mean time, i'm having to do it all on my own
. The sooner i get my degree, the sooner i make better money, and the more effective i will be as far as animal rescues go. It's a process, but a worth-while one! So in the mean time, if you know anyone in TN that might be interested in Harley, i'd greatly appreciate you passing the word on. Thanks so much Katie- you're an awesome encouragement!
Keep up the good work

Mackenzie!!!) / Once again, thankyou for all the sweet comments everyone! It's really appreciated! Have a good one!

What about church groups?? Some have community boards and it's worth a shot.

That is a wonderful idea! I just checked my church's website, and it doesn't have anything like that. I checked some of the other ones around here too and didn't find anything like that, but maybe someone else who is looking to post about their furbabies who are up for adoptions can find some in their area. Thankyou anyways for the good idea though! Hopefully someone else who is in my shoes in another area will be able to use it.
I also have my mom passing on the word about Harley to her coustomers....and Colin is a cop, so whenever the situation is appropriate, i have him passing on the word as well as my other friends and family members. Hopefully we will find him a home soon. Until then though, he's being spoiled and loved here with us. He has taken a distinctive liking to brown paper bags....hehe, especially when there is something on the outside of them he is trying to attack. He's also putting on a little weight- which is great, he looks so much better now than when we found him. I have no doubt this little guy will find a wonderful home.

Soooooo, today, after i was feeling particurally worrisome because I had yet to find Harley a home, Colin came in for dinner and brought some awesome news with him! Colin is a cop, and tonight on his shift he noticed a stray German Shepherd Dog running loose, so being the animal lover he is, he called our buddies up at the Bartlett Animal Shelter and they took him in. Not even 20 minutes later Colin noticed a guy walking down the road with a leash calling for a dog, so when he pulled over and talked to him- it was the German Shepherds owner!!! Yea
So he gets to go back home now (he had snuck through the door when his owner was bringing in groceries! Another happy ending!!!) ---ok, so now for the really good story- As i've been posting since June, i've been having a really hard time finding a home or a placement for Harley due to the high volume of strays this kitten season. While Colin was at the bartlett animal shelter tonight, he mentioned Harley's story to them and they said that they would take him in and give him the best front cage in the shelter!!!!
Yea!!!!!! I was sooo worried that the little guy wouldn't find a home, and now my buddies up at the Bartlett Shelter are going to find him a great one!!! (even though they are an animal shelter, they are extremely low kill- they only euthanize when an animal is terminally ill, or injured to the point that there is nothing they can do to help them- so I don't have to worry about the little guy being euthanized because of overcrowding). Bartlett has an excellent adoption rate too- they just had an adoption event, so there is a ton of space in the cat room, and less kitties means more exposure for Harley. I trust my friends up there too- they put a ton of effort into finding the best home for each animal- so I know they will find the perfect match for Harley. I wish i could keep him myself, but at least i know now that he will have the best possible chance of finding a great home, with a lot more exposure than i've been able to get him.
Tonight i'm washing his favorite teddy bear and blankets to take with him tomorrow, and fixing little things of his food, toys and litter so that he will feel more at ease. I'm sooooo excited!!!!! Colin really came through tonight- i'm sooo psyched! So tomorrow, Harley will be one step closer to finding his forever home, in a wonderful shelter with lots of loving volunteers and other kitties
. I'm going to visit him up there until he gets adopted, so i'll keep everyone posted on his progress. Wish Harely luck!!!!

Thankyou! Harley settled in quite nice up at bartlett yesterday. We stayed there 3 hours with him until they closed- and the awesome thing is, the cat room was packed with people!!! 5 kitties got adopted while we were there!!!! 5 new furbabies have forever homes!! YEA! They put Harley front & center in the best cage so he will be very visible. My buddies up there said they'd really push his adoption- so that's awesome! I took his litter, food, toys and favorite teddy bear with him and his blanket so he would be a little more at home. He really enjoyed seeing the other kitties, so i think he likes the idea of having some kitty companions there. I will be going up there to see him this week after work to check in on him. I'll keep everyone posted. In other news, i'm the new official foster momma up at the Bartlett Animal Shelter- which means i will get all of the bottle babies, pregnant mommas, and sick kitties to foster when i'm able to. I was able to help Harley- now they're helping me find him a home, and i will be able to foster more needy animals- it works out for everyone! Keep your fingers crossed- Harley is very adoptable and is ready for his forever home, so keep sending good vibes that we find him a great home this week!

Awesome news!!!!!! Harley just got adopted!!! My friend Heather up at the Bartlett Animal Shelter just called me and let me talk to the new owners! They're sooo wonderful! It's a mom, dad, and their 16yr old daughter. Harley will be indoors only, the only pet and best of all- not declawed!!!
I'm on cloud nine!!! I'm so excited! The entire family is just in love with the little guy! He found an awesome home! Thanks for all the prayers and vibes for Harley everyone! Harley finally has a forever home with a wonderful family to spoil him rotten!!!!
