Ok, so I've been wondering, is it possible to give a cat too much catnip?

I ask this because my cat's favorite toy is one of those refillable catnip mice. He loves to flip it around the living room all day and will carry it around a bit as well when he is playing with it. We have been leaving this toy in his toy box and letting him get it out when he wants to play with it. He's had it for a little over a week now and doesn't seem to have any problems, but I wanted to get some feedback on it as well.

I think catnip mice will be just fine as long as there are no adverse behavioural problems. I don't know about straight nip... I have a cat that would eat it non stop if he was allowed, and I would think he could get the runs if given too much... I don't ever give more that a large pinch of straight nip.

Thanks for all the answers! I haven't seen any real changes in his behavior when he plays with the mouse, so I wasn't worried, but wanted to check. He will only get straight nip every once in a while, and it's only been a small bit.

I have been known to give my crew half a tub. and leave it over night then sweep it up-My ONLY worry with my guys is I don't want fighting. But otherwise they've always seemed fine. RJ

I always have to watch where I store the "nip tub" as my Twitch is very possessive of it. Not that she can do much to harm another cat.... I do give them a pinch of it to roll in every couple of days. I haven't bought any catnip toys yet.

BTW-Nerelda, I love your siggy!

We only have one health food store within a 100 mile radius of here, so I'll have to stop in there sometime to see if they carry it, and how much.

Thanks!

Thanks! Just made it today.

I have all of Skit's catnip, food, meds, etc all stored in one of the top cabinets in the kitchen. Otherwise, I KNOW he'd be in their trying to open everything up.

I've found catnip in the loose tea section of the store... Though I have a HUGE tub I bought a few weeks ago at a petstore. We had a bunch of small bags and hubby got sick of them getting ripped and kept chucking them on me.. finally I decided to get something in a nice big container.
