Ahhh Susie...
We know that you love Petals with all of your heart.
We all keep learning more about how to care for our cats every day.
That is one of the main reasons why we are all gathered together here on TCS.

Forgive yourself for being human and fallible.
You would never hurt any of you cats on purpose.
Move on...
Learn, teach and love.

I know how hard it is to leave them there. I was really emotional when Rocky went in with his asthma attack. I went over to his cage and gave him a big kiss... It's so much different than just leaving them for a speuter.
Thanks Mollie....your right........

Now be prepared - there might be a little hissing going on when you bring her back home since she now smells like the kitty hospital. Don't worry that won't last ---- OK!!!!

....and I am so glad Pedals is on the mend - she'll be just fine!!!!!

Thanks Helen.....I appreciate the heads up, but that will be nothing new. There's always someone hissing at someone else.......poor 11 month old Bailey gets the brunt of the hisses.......he always is in PLAY mode......

IMHO another vet might have just given antibiotics and hoped for the best. Your vet must be very picky...truly he is going the extra mile to take extra good care of dear Petals to be sure it heals up. And while it is scary to leave her overnight, the problem will be corrected. You won't have to wonder if it is healing, since they cleaned out all the infection! (And I can't believe he said she told you she loves you and not to worry! I WANT your vet!!!)

It is so much harder with the skittish kitties, because they don't let you check them as closely to catch things right away. But you have been a wonderful owner to Petals, and she knows she is lucky to have you!

Alright everyone, lets learn this lesson from Susie. I'll go pick up some stainless steel bowls, and pitch the plastic. I'm also going to do chin checks when I get home, just to be sure!
Honestly, this could happen to anyone!

Get well soon Petals!

Well thanks Becky......I keep welling up here.........
. I may not always take the best care of me, but I do make sure my kits are well taken care of.

I was telling the vet before he looked at Petals, "Oh she's going to give you a hard time. Everytime I try to look at it, she yelps out and runs........" Well, of course, she sat there quiet and the perfect little patient for him......that's when I finally got a good look at it. He looked in her mouth and that was all white and pink, just as it should be.........my sweet little angel...

Oh, my vet is wonderful When we first found Petals, she had such a bad UTI and her eyes were bad. He got her through that, but unfortuntaly, it looked like she might lose one eye, after all our efforts to save it. He wouldn't give up though. When we had her spayed at 6 months, he asked if we minded if while she was under if he cut away the scar tissue on her eye and had a look around, no charge. We totally trust him not just to butcher her and experiement with her, so we said yes. He said lo and behond, there was a pretty good eye underneath all that scar tissue, which he had a feeling might be the case. He always goes that extra step with his patients and I wouldn't take my kits anyother place.

He just might be getting a thank you card or something in the mail from Jerry, Susie and Petals.............

You know, I still have four plastic bowls, and I think I'm gonna pitch 'em tonight. Why take any risk at all, although I only use them about once a week.

At the kitty's beck and call
I'm so sorry sweet Petals had to stay at the Vet's Susie - but she's in the right place. I'm sure it will have been much better for her to have it all cleaned up and inspected while she was peacefully zzzzzzzzing away, rather than have the worry of someone doing it while she was awake.

One of our new members said that she had taken something that smelled of her kitty and rubbed kitty down with it before they went back into the house, maybe that would help to get the Vet smell away from Petals and make the welcome home a bit easier.

Big hugs to Susie - I know you are feeling sad and emotional that your girl isn't well, but as everyone has said, you have done the right thing and taken such good care of your baby - she is going to be just fine and back with you before you know it

Awww Susie, I'm so sorry your sweet girl is in the hospital.
Just think though, this time tomorrow she'll be back home and well on the way to recovery.

Lots of vibes coming Petals' way.
And

Susie,

I'm just seeing this. I'm so sorry Petals had to spend the night in the hospital. To be honest, I use plastic bowls, too. I always have. I heard about kitty acne and actually had a cat that had a mild case several years ago . I think I better switch bowls. She will be so happy to see you tomorrow.

I will pray that it will clear up quickly
and I'm glad you have such a good vet
. I got my cats some pretty ceramic (people) bowls from Walmart, since they eat on my hutch. It did make it fun to go pick them out, and they go in the dishwasher-clean as a whistle!
