Why is is not okay to give a kitten catnip? I am really curious about this because i have friends that have given their cats catnip since day one, but when i have been going on these types of forums I've noticed alot of people saying not to.

most kittens do not react to catnip till they have matured quite a bit.. my salem just recently started reacting to catnip he will be a year old in august

No, but I am surprised your kittens care about it. Cats both have to inherit the proper genes to be catnip responders and they have to be the age of sexual maturity to respond (for some breeds/mixed breeds this can be as young as 16 weeks).

Not sure if your kittens are really responding to "catnip" or just to playing with that green stuff that's fun to play in
