I have been on my job for almost 6 months now. I love it. Great people, great atmosphere... everything!
Today my supervisor came to me with a decision they have made.
They are letting me go in a couple weeks. They are going to being hiring someone with a degree in accounting (aka Quickbooks...how hard is THAT to get?
). I was appalled and almost started crying. I asked them if I was doing something wrong, why wasn't I told? She said it had nothing to do with me personally but she is going to be retiring soon and needs someone who can step in and take over with little supervision. I do accounts receivable which is SO simple. She does accounts payable which I understand is alot more complicated with all the vendors we have. they want someone who can do BOTH which is virtually impossible! I thought "well why don't they just train someone for A/P? She told me they want someone who can do both... I am still in shock. I loved this job!
They are giving me until July 12th to find another job and said I would get an excellent reference from them.
I still haven't told my husband... He's a recovering alcoholic and been a little shakey lately. I don't want to send him over the edge... So I guess it's back to sending out resume's again....Send me some good vibes that it will all work out please?

Thanks.. I am hoping maybe this is a blessing in disguise...I also want to add I am going for surgery next month. I have ovarian cysts that keep bursting and the doctor wants to go in and drain them, and tie my tubes. It's a bit of a disappointment in a way because I can no longer have kids after that...I mean I don't necessarily want more but at before I could if I wanted to with surgery.. Apparently my right ovary is active and my left is what they call "dormant" and it has 7 cysts compared to the right has 9. So either way I don't think I could successfuly carried a child. I have had 3 miscarriages in 4 years.. Maybe it's Gods way. I have 2 beautiful (but mean
) little boys whom I cherish and thank god for every day. I just hope that when/if I get another job they will be understanding about the surgery. If I could afford it I would take a month off work completely but it's not an option. My husband is a roofer and with hurricane season here he's probably going to be out of work quite a bit until the season is over.
So I will be the main income unless he decides to take another job...

Just when you thought you had got it all together and were on the way up, fate strikes a blow. I am sorry and I hope you find another job very quickly.

Thank you everyone.. It has been a long year so far and things were looking good until now.
Everyone here now knows I'm going to be leaving and it sucks!
They all have a different attitude.... kinda arrogant.. I really wish they didn't tell everyone until they were training someone. Now everyone is really stand-offish

You know the saying when one door closes another opens!!
Does your husband travel much being a roofer-its seems that its an occupation that is always in demand.
Good luck on your job search.

Not more then 20 miles or so. They stay around town. He works for a very DEMANDING company too. They have to have the old roof torn off and the new one put on in one day. They have 3 crews and do about 3-4 roofs a day! Some days he works 14 hours, some days he's lucky to work 4 due to the weather

OH NO! I am so sorry to hear that, that must be devastating.

I guess just think of it as something that was meant to be, and it will open up an even better job oppurtunity for you. Especially since they will give you a great reference.

This totally sucks, but you'll get through it
I know you will.

in a pile of open toed shoes!
I am so sorry you are going through all of this!

I don't understand why they wouldn't just send you to take the classes needed to keep your job.... it seems to me it would be easier to train you (with proper schooling) to handle a different aspect as well as your own as opposed to bringing in someone completely new, that has to learn the entire process at your company from scratch... will you be able to collect unemployment??? Hopefully you can try to file for it... I think they have to pay you unemployment for so many months, and maybe even offer you a package like 3 wks pay....

That sucks that you have to have surgery and worry about this all at the same time... I do believe everything happens for a reason, hopefully this will all work out for you.

Um, er...is that legal? Have you looked into your rights in this situation? It doesn't sound to me like they should be allowed to do that...

Unfortunatly Florida is a right to work state. They can fire you and hire someone else in because you sneezed!

I saw if you're gonna sneeze, you might as well leave a booger in their face! (did that make sense??)

Good luck in the job search. Your skills are so versatile, I'm sure you'll find "the job" soon!
