Ophelia was spraying or urinating outside the box late last week. I took her in on Friday to get a urine sample to be tested for urine crystals or a UTI. Her bladder was empty. I left her at the vet around 4pm. They were going to put her on crystals. I assumed that was a litter that would absorb the urine so they could test it, but I really don't know(should've asked!). I was going to call around 4pm yesterday, but I wasn't watching the clock & it got to be after 5pm. So, I just called. They got one urine sample from her, but it was contaminated. They tried to use a catheter to get some urine, but she bit several people! The gal I talked to on the phone was actually laughing about it! She told me that I have quite the cat. I don't know if I should be happy or sad about that.

I did inquire about the effects of the vet stay on Ophelia's already messed up mental health when I called today. They said she seemed to be doing fine. She was actually very well behaved, but by far the noiseiest cat they've ever had there. I didn't inquire about the effects of Ophelia's stay on my pocketbook. It's $10 a night for her "lodging".

Could you guys spare some vibes? I really want my Ophelia home...even with the other four, I still miss her dreadfully. It's so quiet in the basement & I miss having my legs attacked.
Hopefully, the vet can get a urine sample from Ophelia & I can have her home today.

And yet, she looks so innocent!
I kind of think this is so funny in a way because my "nasty" (in a lot of people's minds) Siamese is one big fraidy-cat. He burrows his head right into my arm pit as I hold him for the vet and then tries to crawl into my shirt.

Awww.....he loves you! It's amazing the damage one little cat can do when they are really afraid. I am always paranoid the vets/vet techs will get really hurt by her, so I tell them to use caution. I sometimes don't know what Ophelia will do!

In the meantime, I bought some Cat Attract litter for when she gets home. Boy, that stuff costs a fortune!! I asked my "pet store guy" to order some for me, I even told him about my troubles with Ophelia. It is a small town pet store & the owner knows all about my pets...he even asks me how they are doing when I come in!

Aw, of course you can have major good vibes for "no bite!" No. None. Only food....

I came in tonight searching threads with the word "bite" in the title.

This one reminds me of a story my old landlord told me. She brought her cat to the vet and was holding it herself when her own cat bit her.

She sued the vet majorly and had no problem telling people about this. Very offhandedly, her cat bit her and she's suing the vet. What???

No biting for Ophelia, you got it.

I know exactly what you mean about the biting thing. My Sweetie is a biter when she is upset or in pain. She had a hind leg removed due to a bad break last year and I warned them thet she is a biter and not always a nice cat. I called to check on her one day after the surgery and my vet said that they should have taken my warning seriously. She had already bit two techs that day and it was only 10 am! I felt terrible about it.

Ya know. I think that sometimes the vets and techs forget they don't have Superman invulnerability against animal vengeance and maybe get a little too free with themselves.
Their laughter is probably due a bit to embarrassment.

I am certainly not applauding that anyone gets bit, but one has to consider the nature of the beast, coming with the territory and all those appropriate sayings.

Your sweet Ophelia was only doing what seemed to be the right thing at the time.

Ophelia baby, don't bite the nice doctor now!

Would they not let you be with Ophelia and hold her while they do what they need to do?

We have always gone in with our cats and hold them while they get their needles, etc. None of our vets have ever asked us not to.

This is an old post. Now, they don't want her to come in to get a urine sample.
On Friday I need to get one to take in. They give me a Uro-Collect kit. It's a litterpan liner & some beads that won't alter the urine content. Ophelia is soo good about using them!
The longest it took me was an hour. I put them in her litterpan & go watch TV. I check on her evey 10 minutes to make sure she doesn't wrip through the liner(Soft Paws are awesome for that!) & collect it as soon as she pees.

This vet doesn't like to use a catheter as many cats really don't like that. She prefers to squeeze the bladder until urine comes out(provided there is some in it). Otherwise, cats stay over to get a sample or can go home with the uro collect kit. I really prefer this method to a catheter.
