So while I was away in New Mexico, DH rescued a female snowshoe kitty we've named Mittens. She is about a year old. Anyways, she came home about a full week before I came home. She does not like me at all and she's very attached to my DH.

My question is: does she think I am another female invading her territory??? and if so, how can I get her to warm up to me?

Don't force yourself on her... treats help too though. Give her treats when you see her and make sure that she knows they are from you. Eventually she will warm up to you and get used to you being there... but there is a possiblity you won't be her favorite.

How long has it been since you've been back?

Oh I won't even hope to become the favorite
. It's been amost a month since I've been back. She just doesn't seem to like me at all! She even growls at me
. I think she views me as competition. I make sure I don't force myself on her and give her space, while still being friendly and loving.

A month? Wow... I would try the treats thing... or playing with her with a laser pointer or a string toy on a stick (if that makes sense LOL)... that way you are getting some contact but not direct.

Good luck hun!

yeah, thanks. I think I'm going to need it.

I do understnad even better that cats pick you and not the other way around
.

I'm starting to get jealous and I wish Yen would come home.

Oh well, maybe in a few months when my life settles down, I can try and find a siamese breeder in my area.

Snowshoes, like Tonkinese (from what I've read and experienced) are VERY possessive and usually "pick" their person.
When our Snowshoe gal was flown in from Oregon my husband picked her up at the airport and brought her home. She had decided on the car ride that he belonged to her, and when she came waltzing out of that cat collar with her pink collar and her big blue eyes she promptly hissed at me! LOL Would not have a THING to do with me.
I was heartbroken as I was the one that had picked her out and sent for her!
There was NO changing her mind!
Then she became really ill with pyometra, they didn't even want to spay her they didn't think she'd make it through surgery. I nursed her day and night and slept by her crate that I had taken the top off of so I could touch her. I put her on a heating pad and gave her antibiotics and babyfood through a syringe.
By golly she made it and she now is MY kitty ROFL She worships and adores me and the feelings are returned. So, just kiss up to her A LOT! LOL Good luck.

That's a cute story. She definately picked her human, no doubt about it. She's extremely stubborn. Kyle loves her a lot too, so I think that as long as she's happy, so am I.
