My cat is breathing faster than normal...she also pants...she started it last nite, this morning she was fine tho then a few minutes she started it again....She has some 2 week old kittens...could they be stressing her out?....it is also hot her..its 88 degress right now but it ia probly more lik 95 in my room ( maybe i dnt know)...i dont turn the air on in my room because I don't want the kittens to get cold ( believe me i want to turn it on, its hot for me)...but i think it might be too hot for the mom...how can i keep the kittens warm yet keep the mom cool?

...oh, i kinda got off subject, is she ok? or could it be something seriouse?

It sound like your cat is too hot. Do you have a fan you could turn on and see if it will help her.

yeah i have 2 fans on and i have the window open now, its gotten much cooler in here....shes still breathing hard tho, shes laying down kinda sleeping but i can still see her stomach move up and down fast....is there anything else i can do to keep her cool?

...i hope that is the reason she is panting, shes laying down so i dnt think she is in distress.

Can you call a local Emergency Vet and describe her symptoms? They can tell you if it's likely to be something urgent.

95 degrees is too hot, even for the kittens!

I bet anyhing it is the heat, make sure they have plenty of cool water. And please try and get cooler in there, I know you are worried about the kittens being warm but trust me, the body heat forom it's litter mates and momma are enough to keep them warm even if it were 70 degrees.

Please keep us updated.

Hopefully the problem is the heat. 95 degrees is much too hot. They need it to be warm but not hot. They also have their mother to keep them warm. 70-80 degrees is an appropriate temperature.

I would recommend removing Mom from the room and putting her in a cooler place to see if that helps. If it doesn't, then take her to the nearest 24 hour emergency vet without delay. There may be a problem with her heart and/or lungs.

In them thar hills...
She is probably hot.. I agree with the person who said something about 70 degrees I have three kitties right now and I keep a blow fan on in the room WITH the AC on in the house. They have it around 70 degrees at all times. They have a tiny crate they sleep in together. Mama cat goes in and out of the house taking care of them. But cool is better than hot.

Hope the open window helps. They all need air flow on their bodies if you don't have AC.

My cats showed the same symptom i.e; panting & gasping for air when we were on our way to the vet in my car... I thought they were just nervous or thirsty but I guess they're just dehydrated from the heat like what everyone had said here.

Hi, i have a cat too, he is only 1 years old, its been 85 degress here and he has been breathing fast even when lying down or sleeping and sometimes panting, he now drinks more water than he used too, he used to drink less, i get worried and pay attention to him, my mom said that he was fine but im still not convinced, he was sleeping till 9pm to 12pm and looked tired, his eyes looked tired, i called his name and did not pay attention to me, i called him 5 times and i moved him and he finally woke up, he kept sleeping under my parents bed, and always lies next to the entering door, we open the door cause its really hot and we put a fan, but he still keeps breathing fast and panting once or twice a day, but he looks happy, he wags his tail, but im the nervous one, i can see his belly moving from the fast breathing. I did some reserach and they said to check the cats gums, i checked and they were sorta gray, they said that if they are grey then that can cause loss of oxygen or something like that, but also if a cats overheating, the gums can also turn gray, if they are pink then the cat is healthy, my cats gums right now are sorta pink now, it also says that overheating can cause cats to pant and to breathe fast and thats how they cool down but im still not convinced and dont know if this is the loss of oxygen or overheating, he has been eating well and drinking
