Hi I am new to this forum. My cat, or as I usually refer to him as my little boy, Charlee was born with two small deformed kidneys. Charlee is only 5, so I had to come to peace with the fact that he might not make it to 18.

I have changed his diet completely (now he only gets wet food), we go to an acupuncturist twice a month and he gets his blood checked every two months. He likes the food but not the other stuff. So far the vet said he likes his levels and to keep up what I am doing.

I was wondering if someone elses little boy or little girl has the same or similar situation. Please let me know what you do for them? Thanks!

thank you for your response. What supplements do you think I should give him? My vet is not really a supplement kind of guy! He scrunched his face when I mentioned acupuncture treatments.

I looked at raw food diets but they are high in protein and my vet said that with the kind of kidney problem he has he should be on a low protein diet. I feed him the Nutro pouches. They are better than the K/D Science diet we were on. I really do not think the K/D Science diet is really that good. We were on that for several months and Charlee's levels kept increasing. When we switched to the Nutor his levels went down.

Thank you for the suggestions.

Thank you - I have looked into a transplant. Yes, kidney transplants are a fortune - $23,000 for just one kidney and you have to keep the donar cat. So in the end, you have two cats with only one good kidney.

Also we could go for dialysis (i think that is how you spell it) when he gets worse but that is $500 each time.

The quality of protein supperseds the amount.. as I too have found out ... Talk with your accupucturist ( mine is a huge wealth of knowledge )
