I managed to go on vacation for a week a couple thousand miles away. And guess what! My kitten is sleeping on my lap right now...

Aside from being heinous and stupid, I completely fail to see the logic in "Oh, well I can't have a cat and go on vacation, so I'll kill it." I'm only assuming she meant have it put down? Not something *shudder* else? What kind of vet would put a perfectly healthy cat to sleep?

Are you sure she meant it and wasn't just saying it so your wife would babysit her cat for free????

I wouldn't give her the cat back. she doesn't deserve to get him back after threatening to have him PTS even if it was an idle threat to get a cat sitter!!

I wouldn't give it back either. The woman's an incompetent glob of slime if she told such a screwed up lie to trick people into petsitting for free. I'd greet her with a bill, and if she refused to pay it, i'd keep the cat.

Well since I can actually get in to this site I've got more to say. It actually gets worst. It seems this "person" (and trust me I have other words for her) has 5 other cats. And she has a sitter for them. But this cat that we now have is 12 years old, and gee, she gets a little edgy when no ones is around, has a tendency to rip the furniture.

So, gee...I've got to go on vacation and I don't want my furniture hurt....again, :censor::censor::censor:!

Well, we got the cat now. I've met him, he's a perfectly fine cat very loving and appears healthy. He's not the most beautiful cat I've ever seen but :censor::censor::censor:, it's a cat and he's 12 and he's not ready to cork off.

I do think that he won't fit in because of the birds. But the thought of returning him to this poor excuse for a human is, well, unacceptable.

Still, wife made the deal. Poor judgement, well intentioned.

when we go away, for a whole weekend for our wedding...

all 14 cats and 2 dogs will be boarded and each animal already has 2 pages of instructions to go with them...

my mom is jokeing with me, that the board bill will cost more than the wedding.

Awww, I'm glad you know that your wife may have misunderstood the situation, but it's still so wonderful to know that poor kitty is out of there.....give your wife a hug, tell her it will all work out, grab a beer, and then hope for the best..........perhaps given time your kits will accept this new one?

Don't be too hard on Tracey - she has probably saved this cat from being PTS. If you return the cat, I'd do it with a list of boarding facilities in the area, just to send the message that you know her co-worker misled you, and shouldn't expect to be able to pull that trick again.

Jees. I understand not wanting your furniture ripped up, but boarding the cat would have taken care of that. I've got an older (not old, only 10) cat, too, who likes to claw stuff when he gets lonely and bored. Soft Paws fixes that right up as well. I can't believe someone with that many cats would not have figured out a better way.

Oh my dear goodness, what a tragedy! People are insane, killing your pet to get new rugs or go on vacation!!! This is ridiculous. I agree, pet ownership is a big responsibily, and there should be some sort of qualifications.

When I worked at the pet store, we sold cats to just any old person or bratty child who wanted one, and I just couldnt stomache it, so (it was a lie, but...) I started giving people pet ownership quizzes to see if they qualified and would be able to provide fully for a cat/kitten. I had them give us their phone number so that we (really just I) could follow up on their new pets progress. It did manage to weed out a few wackos. But, it just breaks my heart to know how many undeserving people have pets. Ugh.

Maybe it will rain or SNOW every day for this woman on her vacation. She should never own a pet!! Vacation?? What is that?? I can't even go away for the whole day!! I understand wanting to go away on vacation. But, when you decide to take a pet into your home, you must provide for the proper care, even if that means no vacation. And a couch is just that, a lousy couch. It's just a piece of furniture.

That's a good idea. We're going to put some message in there to let her know she used poor judgement.

As far as being hard on Tracey, I'll be honest. When I found out the whole story I really blew my stack. If the story went as she originally said I wouldn't have been overjoyed with taking in another cat but knowing my wife and how she feels about cats I understood.

You know how some people are so good hearted that they let others walk on them, well that's Tracey. She doesn't speak up. And what she allowed this lady to do to her in my book was not smart. Never the less, I'm past that now and I hope she learned a lesson.

In the bird world and I'm sure it's true in the cat world there is a saying "you can't save them all." It's unfortunate but it is realistic. I've had many people offer me birds for all the lousy reasons you can think of and I turn them down. It sometimes breaks my heart and makes me want to rip their throats out but the answer has to be no. Usually with me it goes like this, "I'm sorry I can't help you. Do me a favor will you? When you do find a home for this bird please don't ever own another one."

I am sitting in the basement on a nice comfy easy chair, Boody is sitting with me purring and kneading. He is a sweet boy! He is also very fascinated with my fingers going over the keyboard.

Could I have handled this whole thing differently? Yep, but bottom line is that the kitty is sitting here with me purring and not dead.

I will put together a cat "care pack" of information, boarding facilities, behavior modifcations ( hers.... oh, wait maybe the cat... ) and info on feliway and soft paws.

I won't ever feel the respect I had for this person again, period. But I do have to work with her (we are both managers), and I will - but I don't have to like it.
