Yesterday we had to drop Nedicks off at the vet for a few hours for an ultrasound of her bladder. Her brother Nathan initially didn't even seem to notice she was gone, but then at some point during the day he went and hid behind the sofa and would only come out for food. We picked Nedicks up around 4 p.m. and Nathan sniffed around her a bit and then was intermittently hiding under the bed the rest of the evening (although he did spend some time on the sofa with us).
This morning they were both loitering around me meowing for breakfast. Nathan ate all of his food (and a few bites of hers too) and then shortly after that went back to hiding under the bed and has been under there since (so basically for about 4 hours). I lured him out about an hour ago by shaking a bag of treats, but when I tried to give him one he just sniffed at it and walked away and a few minutes later was back under the bed again. He doesn't seem sick, and like I said, he ate his breakfast with enthusiasm this morning.
Could he have been frightened by his sister's absence for several hours yesterday, and the fact that she doesn't smell like herself (they shampooed her after her ultrasound to get all the gel out of her fur)?
