How does a momma cat teach her babies to use the litter box?

Just wondering.... Don't know if I've witnessed this....

It's not really that she teaches them (ie places them in the litterbox)....they actually watch her use the litterbox and will want to copy her actions. That is how weaning begins...the kittens will start to want to taste mom's food and try out her litterbox. For those kittens that aren't picking up on using a litterbox, it is often best to confine them into a smaller area so that their only option is to use the litterbox. This can be accomplished using a large dog crate.
