adopt another cat. or six. unfortunatetly i can't-we weren't even supposed to have Wonton - the landlord had said no originally when we asked if we could have a cat. however life happened, we found Wonton and couldn't give him up. We spoke to our landlord and offered to give her a pet deposit, and told her that if we couldn't work something out we'd have to move, as we weren't going to give up our cat. Luckily she gave in and allowed us to keep Wonton (after we gave her a hefty deposit), but another cat would be out of the question-we barely managed to get her to accept this one.

i just wish i could help some more kitties. i read about people going to shelters and getting a new furry friend, and i wish i could do the same. i dont think we could even if we had our own house though-Wonton is extremely territorial, i'm pretty sure he'd attack any cat we brought home.

Oh well...i'll keep donating to shelters, and i'm thinking of volunteering at our local spca..just wish i could do something more "hands on".

Your desire to help cats is so lovely. We all make a difference in our own way, from the grandest acts all the way to the seemingly trivial. As we all join together, each and every act of kindness is changing the world.

Donating time and money to a shelter helps so much...don't sell yourself short. In that way you can help more than by taking in another kitty. You have time later, when your circumstances change, to adopt another kitty.

i do hope i can adopt more kitties someday. maybe when Wonton is older he'll have calmed down a bit and won't mind a companion. i actually think one would do him good-im not working right now, but i will go back to work eventually, and then he'll be alone all day. i'd really like him to have a buddy, but he just doesn't seem to like other cats.

my local shelter needs someone to socialize their cats and kittens before they put them up for adoption...i can't think of a better activity then sitting around cuddling and playing with kitties

Helping kitties doesn't necessarily have to mean adopting, there are lots of little things you can do. Spaying contributes towards rescue, and if you have spare time, any help you can offer to a shelter - not necessarily with the kits, if you have any skills that can help them is doing just as much as having a new rescue cat. Good luck, and I hope you find a solution.

I understand. Just yesterday I was at Petsmart and I saw four tuxedo kittens together in the fluffy ball of tuxedo-goodness.

I already have five, but the temptation to get more would eventually make me a crazy cat lady.

While adopting more kitties sounds fun, you are to be admired for knowing your limitations! I'm glad the landlord let you keep Wonton, but you definitely don't want to push your luck in asking to keep another.

Maybe if someday you are in your own home, you can start by fostering one cat. That way if Wonton simply refuses to accept the new kitty, it won't be someone who planned to stay.

I have been fostering for all of Festus and Garfield's lives, and they still have some trouble adjusting to the new cats each time. Usually in time they all get along fine, but a kitty who is really opposed to other kitties may not adjust. (Trust me, my current foster Sarabi is in that catagory. Several weeks into trying to integrate her into my home, and she is STILL fighting with my kids!)

Volunteers are desperately needed at shelters and rescues. I'm sure you will find a good place to help!

I kinda understand what you mean arcadian girl... While I don't want anymore cats right now (three's enough and Mouse, still being a kitten, is a handful of fun) I really really really want to foster cats (and to be honest I never knew you could do that until I came here) but I know that I cant' because

a. I'm pretty sure DH won't let me
B. I would become attached and not want to give them away
C. If DH DID let us B would happen to both of us then we'd be the crazy cat people with an infinity number of cats... and that wouldn't be good either.

However I'm sure if some kitties were in a bad predicament and someone came to us (as I'm sure someone is liable to do at one point) we would take them in and figure something out... but I tell you this one bedroom house would feel smaller than it already does....
