We got a new cat at the pound a couple of months ago. They thought he was 1 to 1 1/2 years and is fixed. We have one other cat and a dog.

About every six hours, he starts crying for at least half an hour. It usually around 10 a.m. 3:30 p.m., 10 p.m. and 3:30 a.m. He makes the most pitiful meows and screeching sounds. It used to be more frequent, but he has kind of settled down to this schedule.

We have no idea what to do to make him shut up, especially at night. We have tried ignoring him, putting him in a carrier, holding him like a baby, and using the squirt bottle. But he doesnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t seem to want anything in particular. He has food, water and clean litter. He doesnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t want to be held or played with. He just sits there and cries.

Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m thinking he just wants attention. But if we ignore him for too long, he will start doing something he isnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t supposed to do, like tear stuff up so we have to pay attention. He has already ruined one set of blinds and ripped the bottom of our bed to shreds.

Does anyone have ideas about why he is doing this or how to make him stop?

Thanks so much.

Is it possible those times are when he was fed at the pound and even tho' he's now eating differently, still feels compelled to sound off then?
